Job summary

AME Construction Sdn. Bhd. is a leading Malaysian contractor focusing on industrial and commercial projects. We seek a Welding Engineer to develop and review welding docs, ensure quality, and coordinate inspections across fabrication and site activities.

The role requires a degree in Welding/Engineering and experience with welding standards (AWS/ASME/ISO). Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills are essential, with proficiency in MS Office and documentation systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in welding, mechanical, materials, metallurgical engineering or related field.
• 1-5 years in welding engineering, steel fabrication, and construction projects.
• Knowledge of AWS D1.1, ASME IX, ISO 15614/9606; CSWIP 3.0/AWS CWI is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and approve welding procedure specs and weld qualification records.
• Ensure welding activities meet quality standards in fabrication and site work.
• Monitor weld prep, parameters, consumables, and post-weld requirements.
• Coordinate welding inspections and NDT (VT/MT/PT/UT/RT).
• Investigate defects, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain welding documentation, logs, and quality dossiers.
• Provide technical guidance to welders, supervisors, and QA/QC teams.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Production, QA/QC, clients and inspectors to meet quality/schedule.
• Ensure calibration of welding and inspection equipment; comply with QMS/HSE.

What You’ll Do:

• Develop, review, and approve WPS, PQR, and Welder Qualification records in compliance with AWS, ASME, ISO, and project requirements.
• Ensure welding activities meet quality standards during fabrication and site erection.
• Monitor weld preparation, welding parameters, consumable control, and post-weld requirements.
• Coordinate welding inspections and NDT activities (VT, MT, PT, UT, RT).
• Investigate welding defects, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain welding documentation, including weld maps, logs, qualification records, inspection reports, and quality dossiers.
• Provide technical support and guidance to welders, supervisors, and QA/QC teams.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Production, QA/QC, Clients, and Third-Party Inspectors to achieve project quality and schedule objectives.
• Ensure calibration of welding and inspection equipment and compliance with QMS and HSE requirements.

What We’re Looking For:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Welding, Mechanical, Materials, Metallurgical Engineering, or related discipline.
• 1-5 years of experience in welding engineering, steel structure fabrication, and construction projects.
• Knowledge of AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, ISO 15614, ISO 9606, and related welding standards.
• AWS CWI or CSWIP 3.0 certification is an advantage.
• Familiarity with welding processes (SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW, SAW), NDT methods, welding metallurgy, and quality control.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and engineering documentation systems.
