Job summary

Sime Darby Industrial Division is seeking a Welder/Fabricator to execute welding and fabrication tasks in a busy workshop in Penang. You will cut, fit, grind, and weld metal components and assist with engine packaging to meet production schedules.

Candidates should have 2–5 years in welding/fabrication or an engineering qualification (SPM/Certificate/Diploma). Strong safety mindset and good communication are essential for the team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• SPM/Certificate/Diploma in Engineering or related; 2–5 years of experience.
• Candidates with 2–4 years welding/fabrication experience may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
• Knowledge of welding, fabrication, cutting, fitting, and grinding.
• Able to work with minimum supervision and show good communication.

Job description

• Perform welding and fabrication work, including cutting, fitting, grinding, and welding of metal components,
• Assist with engine packaging fabrication activities to support production schedules and timely completion of work orders,
• Operate welding equipment, fabrication tools, and machinery safely and correctly,
• Ensure welding and fabrication work meets required quality, dimensional, and workmanship standards,
• Conduct visual inspections of completed work and report defects or abnormalities to the Senior Welder or Supervisor,
• Follow approved welding procedures, work instructions, and material handling guidelines to minimize rework and material wastage,
• Comply with QESH, safety, PPE, and workshop procedures at all times,
• Maintain good housekeeping and 5S practices within the assigned work area,
• Work closely with welders, fabricators, technicians, and supervisors to support smooth workshop operations,
• Assist senior team members with material preparation, handling, and equipment setup,
• Participate in on-the-job training, technical courses, and safety programmes to continuously develop your welding and fabrication skills,
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Management.

Job Requirement:

• SPM, Certificate or Diploma in Engineering or related with 2 to 5 years of experience in relevant field,
• Candidates with 2–4 years of relevant welding or fabrication experience may be considered in lieu of formal academic qualifications,
• Knowledge of welding, fabrication, cutting, fitting, and grinding,
• Able to work with minimum supervision,
• Possess good communication and interpersonal skills with positive attitude.
