This role is suited to engineers who have worked on production systems and understand more than just application development. You should be comfortable working with APIs, microservices, event-driven processing, databases and cloud infrastructure, while maintaining performance and reliability as systems scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services, RESTful APIs and microservices using Go (Golang).
• Build reliable, scalable and distributed services capable of supporting high transaction volumes.
• Implement and troubleshoot asynchronous processing using Apache Kafka, including producers, consumers, topics, partitions, consumer groups and failure recovery.
• Design and optimise data models, queries and indexes across relational databases and Couchbase.
• Deploy, operate and troubleshoot containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Implement and improve horizontal and dynamic scaling strategies for production workloads.
• Develop and operate backend services in AWS, with attention to performance, availability, scalability and operational reliability.
• Investigate performance bottlenecks, concurrency issues, service failures and production incidents.
• Implement automated tests, participate in code reviews and maintain engineering quality through CI/CD practices.
• Monitor application health and performance, identify root causes of failures, and implement improvements to system reliability.
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams to deliver maintainable solutions and take ownership of assigned services throughout the software development lifecycle.

Required Expertise

• At least 3 years of professional backend software development experience.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Go (Golang) and developing production backend services.
• Practical experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Demonstrated experience building, operating or optimising high‑throughput production systems, ideally handling thousands of transactions per second. Candidates must be able to explain how throughput and performance are measured and investigated.
• Practical experience implementing horizontal scaling, dynamic scaling or equivalent capacity‑management approaches for production workloads.
• Hands‑on experience deploying and operating containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes, including application health checks and scaling.
• Practical experience with Apache Kafka, including producers, consumers, topics, partitions, consumer groups, retries, duplicate‑message handling and failure recovery.
• Hands‑on experience with Couchbase, including data modelling, querying, indexing and performance optimisation.
• Experience with relational databases, including data modelling, transactions, query optimisation and database performance.
• Hands‑on experience deploying, operating and troubleshooting backend services on AWS, including familiarity with compute, networking, access management and monitoring, and understanding how to scale services reliably in a cloud environment.
• Strong understanding of concurrency, distributed systems, service communication, error handling, data consistency and performance optimisation.
• Experience with automated testing, version control, CI/CD and production troubleshooting.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to take ownership of technical issues and work effectively with other engineers.

Preferred Expertise

• Experience operating backend services at sustained high transaction volumes and conducting capacity planning.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes autoscaling, infrastructure as code and cloud monitoring tools.
• Experience with load testing, performance profiling, observability and production incident investigation.
• Experience with cloud security, availability improvements and infrastructure cost optimisation.

Education

A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline is preferred. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.

Position Details

• Salary: RM8,000 – RM12,000 per month
• Working arrangement: Hybrid
• Hiring status: Urgent hiring, multiple headcounts
