Job summary

Focal Consulting is seeking a Senior Software Architect in Kuala Lumpur to own system architecture, elevate engineering standards, and mentor teams to build scalable platforms.

You will define architecture, drive clean code practices, lead API design efforts, and guide production-grade platform evolution with realistic technical planning.

Qualifications

• Architecture Ownership:Define overall system architecture, make strategic technical decisions on frameworks, and act as the final technical authority.
• Engineering Standards:Establish strict coding standards, drive clean architecture, conduct thorough code reviews, and actively reduce technical debt.
• Team Leadership:Mentor engineers to elevate their technical maturity, promote high accountability, and guide best practices in API design and resilience.
• Platform Strategy:Oversee the evolution of systems into production-grade platforms, leading root cause analysis and ensuring robust observability.
• Technical Planning:Translate product requirements into technical deliverables, providing realistic estimations while balancing speed with long-term scalability.

Requirements

• Education:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience:5+ years of professional software development experience with a proven track record of building and scaling production systems.
• Technical Skills:Deep expertise in backend development (Node.js, Java, Python, or .NET), frontend architecture principles, and RESTful API design.
• Infrastructure & Data:Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, scalable system design, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and deployment practices.
• Preferred Skills:Proven experience leading small, high-performing teams, transforming fragmented systems into structured platforms, and prior experience in Fintech or automation-heavy environments.
