Job summary

W.R. Grace is seeking a Technical Engineer to join our Manufacturing Team based in Kuantan, Pahang. The role leads process optimization, manufacturing excellence, and safety initiatives to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective plant operation while maintaining product quality and regulatory compliance.

You will act as the technical subject matter expert for assigned processes, drive continuous improvement, lead plant trials, and mentor engineers and operators across the site.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering preferred or related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years in chemical, petrochemical, or related manufacturing.
• 3+ years in process engineering, technical, or manufacturing excellence roles.

W.R Grace is seeking a Technical Engineer to join our Manufacturing Team based in Kuantan,Pahang. This role reports to Technical & Engineering Manager.

Technical Engineer's role is responsible for leading process optimization, manufacturing excellence, process safety management, capital improvement projects, and technical support activities to ensure safe, reliable, sustainable, and cost-effective operation of plant facilities while maintaining product quality, regulatory compliance, and business objectives. The role serves as the technical subject matter expert for assigned manufacturing processes and provides leadership in continuous improvement, process safety, and operational excellence initiatives

• Performing technical and economic analysis on the existing production and equipment for continuous improvement.
• Can instruct operators, boilerman and any other production personnel to assist in project work where data gathering, monitoring of process but with prior discussion with the relevant section heads.
• Recommends operating procedures, parameters etc based on findings to section heads for implementation

Process Engineering and Manufacturing Support

• Provide technical leadership and process engineering support to manufacturing operations.
• Conduct process optimization studies to improve yield, throughput, quality and cost performance.
• Analyze process data, monitor KPIs and troubleshoot process upsets.
• Lead plant trials, process validation activities and technology transfer projects.
• Develop process calculations, mass balances and engineering recommendations.
• Improvement or existing production procedures and implementation of new processes.

Continuous Improvement and Manufacturing Excellence

• Lead Lean Manufacturing and Operational Excellence initiatives.
• Facilitate Root Cause Analysis using 5-Why, Fishbone, FTA and FMEA methodologies.
• Track OEE, yield, utility use, waste generation and manufacturing costs.
• Implement actions to improve productivity, quality and reliability.

Process Safety Management

• Facilitate PHA, HAZOP, LOPA and risk assessments.
• Maintain Process Safety Information including PFDs and P&IDs.
• Steward MOC and PSSR programs.
• Investigate process safety incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Monitor process safety performance indicators and drive safety culture improvements.

Capital Projects

• Develop process design basis and process engineering deliverables.
• Support CAPEX justification, engineering reviews, installation, commissioning and startup.
• Review equipment specifications, utility requirements and control philosophies.

Reliability and Mechanical Integrity

• Support Mechanical Integrity and Reliability programs.
• Analyze recurring equipment failures and identify process-related causes.
• Recommend process and design improvements to improve plant reliability.

Energy Management and Sustainability

• Support utility optimization and energy reduction projects.
• Support carbon reduction, waste minimization, and water conservation initiatives.
• Track sustainability metrics and recommend improvements.

Digitalization and Process Analytics

• Utilize process historians and manufacturing databases.
• Develop dashboards and KPI reporting tools.
• Apply SPC and data analytics techniques.

Quality Systems and Product Stewardship

• Support ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 systems.
• Lead quality investigations and customer complaint technical reviews.
• Lead qualification of new products and process changes.

EHS and Regulatory Compliance

• Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, environmental permits and corporate standards.
• Participate in audits, inspections and emergency preparedness activities.
• Provide technical support during incidents and plant emergencies.

Training, Coaching and Leadership

• Train operators, supervisors and engineers.
• Mentor junior engineers and technical personnel.
• Act as Subject Matter Expert for assigned manufacturing processes.

Productivity Initiatives

• Identify cost-saving opportunities and evaluate financial benefits of projects.
• Support preparation of annual budgets and improvement plans.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in:

• Chemical Engineering (Preferred)
• Process Engineering
• Related Engineering Discipline

Experience

• Minimum 8 years experience in chemical, petrochemical, specialty chemicals, oil & gas or related manufacturing industry.
• Minimum 3 years in process engineering, technical, process safety or manufacturing excellence roles.
• Experience in continuous process manufacturing is preferred
