Job summary

Job description

Assess and prepare patients before radiology examinations and procedures.

Verify patient identity, clinical information, consent, allergies, and relevant medical history.

Explain procedures and provide appropriate nursing instructions and emotional support.

Ensure patients are appropriately prepared, including fasting and medication requirements where applicable.

Monitor patients' vital signs and clinical condition before, during, and after procedures.

Observe patients for any adverse reactions or complications and report abnormalities promptly.

Provide appropriate nursing care and ensure patient comfort, privacy, and dignity.

Assist Radiologists and the radiology team during diagnostic and interventional procedures.

Assist with procedures involving contrast media, sedation, biopsies, and other radiology-related interventions as directed.

Prepare and maintain the required equipment, supplies, and emergency equipment.

Verify prescribed medications and contrast media before administration.

Monitor patients for signs of contrast reactions and initiate appropriate emergency management according to hospital protocols.

Ensure medication and contrast-related documentation is completed accurately.

Monitor patients following procedures until they are clinically stable for discharge or transfer.

Provide patients and caregivers with appropriate post-procedure instructions.

Escalate any abnormal findings or complications to the Radiologist or relevant medical team.

Maintain appropriate infection prevention and control practices during all procedures.

Ensure safe handling and disposal of clinical waste and sharps.

Follow radiation safety requirements and departmental protocols when working in radiology areas.

Ensure emergency equipment is available and ready for use.

7. Documentation & Reporting

Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, vital signs, procedures, medications, contrast administration, and post-procedure care.

Record and report adverse events, incidents, and patient concerns according to hospital procedures.

Maintain confidentiality of patient information.

8. Equipment & Stock Management

Assist in maintaining adequate supplies, medications, consumables, and emergency equipment within the Radiology Department.

Check equipment and report any malfunction or maintenance requirements to the appropriate personnel.

Assist with stock checks and ensure proper storage of supplies.

Provide patients and caregivers with clear information regarding preparation, procedures, and post-procedure care.

Communicate effectively with Radiologists, Medical Officers, Radiographers, Nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

Provide compassionate and patient-centred care throughout the patient's radiology journey.

10. General Responsibilities

Participate in emergency response activities and manage patient emergencies within the scope of nursing practice.

Participate in departmental training, competency assessments, audits, and quality improvement activities.

Comply with hospital policies, nursing standards, infection control requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Perform any other duties assigned by the Nurse Manager, Radiology Manager, or Management.
