Job summary

Assunta Hospital Petaling Jaya is seeking a Speech-Language Therapist to assess, diagnose and manage patients across age groups with speech, language, voice, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders, including dysphagia, in inpatient wards, ICU, rehabilitation units and outpatient clinics.

You will deliver individualized, evidence-based care, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, maintain clinical documentation, and participate in quality improvement and professional learning

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language Therapy.
• Registered with the Malaysia Allied Health Professions Council (MAHPC).
• Valid Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
• Minimum two years of relevant hospital or rehabilitation experience.
• Sound knowledge of communication and swallowing disorders, including dysphagia.
• Proficient in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
• Strong communication, teamwork, clinical reasoning and time-management skills.
• Able to practise independently and manage complex cases.

Job description

As a Speech-Language Therapist, you will assess, diagnose and manage patients of all ages with speech, language, communication, voice, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders, including dysphagia.

You will manage a varied caseload across inpatient wards, ICU, rehabilitation units and outpatient clinics, delivering individualised, evidence-based care for both routine and complex clinical cases.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess and manage communication, voice, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders.
• Develop, implement and review individualised treatment and rehabilitation plans.
• Conduct swallowing assessments and recommend appropriate swallowing strategies and food or fluid textures.
• Educate patients, families and caregivers on treatment, communication strategies, swallowing safety and home programmes.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on patient care and discharge planning.
• Maintain accurate, timely and confidential clinical documentation.
• Prioritise caseloads according to clinical needs, risks and patient safety.
• Participate in quality improvement, accreditation, clinical audits, service development and professional learning activities.
• Ensure compliance with professional standards, hospital policies, infection prevention practices and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Speech-Language Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology or an equivalent recognised qualification.
• Registered with the Malaysia Allied Health Professions Council (MAHPC).
• Valid Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
• Minimum two years of relevant experience in a hospital, rehabilitation centre or comparable healthcare setting.
• Sound clinical knowledge of communication and swallowing disorders, including dysphagia management.
• Good written and spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia.
• Strong communication, teamwork, clinical reasoning and time-management skills.
• Able to practise independently, manage complex cases and take accountability for clinical decisions.
• This role requires flexibility to work across different clinical areas, manage changing patient priorities and follow safe patient-handling and infection-prevention practices.
