Responsibilities

  • Understands and carries out nursing care according to standards.
  • Works shift duties or as assigned by Unit Manager.
  • Informs Unit Manager of any changes affecting care standards.
  • Receives and hands over patient reports for shift changes.
  • Visits every patient to assess and plan care.
  • Provides individualized holistic care using Nursing Process.
  • Reports abnormal findings to relevant doctors.
  • Conducts regular nursing rounds to ascertain patient needs.
  • Assists doctors during ward rounds and in procedures.
  • Liaises with doctors regarding patient care.
  • Establishes effective communication with patients and relatives.
  • Participates in health education for patients.
  • Assists Unit Manager in unit administration.
  • Acts on behalf of Unit Manager when required.
  • Checks and documents sterile supplies and stock levels.
  • Carries out assignments and provides feedback.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Understands and carries out nursing care in line with Vision and Mission Statements, Goals and Objectives that suit the scope of the Nursing Services.
  • Works shift duties or as assigned by Unit Manager according to Unit’s Operational Hours.
  • Informs Unit Manager when changes occur in circumstances which affect standards of care.
  • Receives and hands‑over patient reports, knows the case in detail, ensures all doctors’ orders are carried out before shift change and on taking over the case, and reports any incidents or problems encountered.
  • Visits every patient in the unit together with team members on taking over duties to assess condition of patient, compare with report, re‑plan nursing care according to assessment or evaluation, determine nursing priorities and plan patient care according to patient’s needs and staff availability.
  • Provides individualized holistic care to patients using the Nursing Process approach with proper nursing documentation in patients’ files that is contemporaneous.
  • Reports all abnormal findings and progress of patients to the relevant doctors/consultants.
  • Conducts regular nursing rounds on all patients in the ward to ascertain other additional needs, and talks to patient/family members as an integral part of emotional support.
  • Follows doctors/consultants ward rounds and assists them in procedures when required.
  • Carries out orders of doctors/consultants pertaining to care of patients and delegates to other team members according to their assignments.
  • Liaises and discusses with the relevant doctors/consultants regarding care of patients in the unit/ward.
  • Establishes and develops effective communication with all disciplines, patients and relatives to achieve optimal patient satisfaction.
  • Attends and participates in unit meetings, dialogue sessions and hospital activities.
  • Participates in the health education of patients and their families in the ward.
  • Assists the Unit Manager in the administration of the unit/wards when assigned as shift nurse in charge.
  • Acts on behalf of the Unit Manager in setting standards and expectations in the quality of care.
  • Carries out duties and responsibilities of the Unit Manager in her absence as directed.
  • Ensures charges of equipment/consumable items into patient’s charges accordingly and checks for completeness.
  • Responsible for checking and documenting supply of sterile packs from CSSS and weekly checking for integrity of packaging.
  • Maintains and documents adequate supply of unit stock.
  • Carries out assignments scheduled by Unit Manager and provides feedback.
