Job summary

KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital in Malaysia seeks a dedicated ward nurse to deliver basic patient care and support. You will receive ward reports at the start of each shift and assist the Unit Manager and Senior Registered Nurse with assigned tasks.

You will perform regular rounds, maintain cleanliness of the ward, assist with transfers to the OR and diagnostic services, manage supplies, and ensure patient comfort and safety through correct body mechanics.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic nursing care aligned with the hospital's vision, mission, philosophy, goals and objectives.
• Notify nursing leaders of situations that impact quality of care.
• Obtain ward report and shift assignment; follow directives from Unit Manager or Senior Registered Nurse.
• Conduct regular nursing rounds to assess patients' needs and communicate with patients and families.
• Prepare and tidy patients' beds and linens; organize belongings and furniture.
• Disinfect beds, furniture and equipment after use.
• Keep ward, store and fridge clean and tidy.
• Assist patients with filling hot water flasks when needed.
• Answer phone calls and relay messages; respond to patient bell prompts promptly.
• Assist nurses in transporting patients to/from the Operating Theatre.
• Escort patients to diagnostic services and discharge areas as needed.
• Dispatch specimens to the laboratory and collect results.
• Collect pharmacy and surgical supplies to maintain stock for operations.
• Send portable oxygen tanks for refilling to ensure emergency supply.
• Assist trained staff with patient care activities including comfort, safety, hygiene, admission, transfer, discharge, dressing, IVs, catheterization.
• Clean and disinfect trolleys and instruments after use and store them properly.
• Record daily ward charges and update patient charges accordingly.
• Serve meals, prepare drinks for patients and collect trays.
• Maintain intake and output records for each patient.
• Lift, turn and position patients safely using proper body mechanics.
• Attend meetings held by the service.

Job description

ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT

1. Provide basic nursing care that aligns with the vision, mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives of the nursing services and the hospital.
2. Notify the nursing leaders of any situations that impact the quality of care.
3. Obtain ward report and assignment at the beginning of each shift and perform additional tasks as assigned by the Unit Manager or Senior Registered Nurse
4. Perform Daily routine:

• Conducts regular nursing rounds to assess patients’ needs and communicate with them and their families.
• Prepares and tidies patients’ beds and linens as needed and organizes patients’ belongings as well as furniture.
• Disinfects the beds, furniture, and equipment after utilizing them.
• Maintain the ward, store, fridge and its facilities clean and tidy.
• Assist the patient with filling the hot water flask if needed.
• Answer phone calls and relay messages.
• Attendants to patients call the bell promptly.
• Assists nurses in transporting patients to and from the Operating Theatre.
• Escorts patients to other services for diagnostic tests and from the ward to other areas upon discharge.
• Dispatches specimens to the laboratory and collects results
• Collect pharmacy and surgical supplies from pharmacy and the store as required to maintain adequate stock levels for operations.
• Send out portable oxygen tanks for refilling or exchange, ensuring a continuous supply for emergency needs.

1. Assists the trained staff in various aspects:

• Carried out of nursing care, such as patient comfort, safety, nutrition, hygiene, admission, transfer, discharge, dressing, intravenous lines, catheterization, etc.
• Cleans and disinfects the trolley and instruments after use and stores them properly.
• Records the daily charges for the items used in the ward and updates the patients’ charges accordingly.
• Serves meals, prepare drinks for patients if needed, and collects trays.
• Maintains the record of intake and output chart for each patient.
• Lifts, turns, and positions patients safely and comfortably using the correct body mechanics.
