Job summary

WEO Optronics in Melaka is seeking a Sourcing Engineer to source machining services, collaborate with suppliers for planning, on-time delivery and cost control. You will review drawings, evaluate suppliers, and drive continuous improvement with cross-functional teams for new product launches.

The role requires strong negotiation and GD&T knowledge within a mechanical engineering background. Join a fast-growing opto-mechanical manufacturing plant supporting global HQ and regional ops.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years related working experience in the manufacturing environment, preferably with CNC knowledge and surface treatment.
• Well versed with mechanical processes, including turning, milling, turn mill, 5-axis CNC machines.
• Read mechanical drawings with 2D/3D, familiar with GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Source and procure machining services, including but not limited to CNC machining, stamping, plastic components.
• Develop supplier base by sourcing, evaluating and negotiating with suppliers.
• Conduct regular supplier performance evaluations on Quality, OTD, Cost, Services and drive improvements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure material readiness for new product launches.
• Review engineering drawings and ensure RFQ compliance to customer requirements and specifications.
• Continuously optimize CNC machining processes with suppliers to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Implement robust quality controls with suppliers throughout the machining process.

Job description

Primary Job Duties:

The Sourcing Engineer is responsible for sourcing machining services for our organization.

He/She is tasked tocollaborate with suppliers for planning of output, on time delivery, reduction of rejects and improvement of processes.

The individual will work closely with WEO head quarter, manufacturing sites &Inter-department functions to ensure projects are launched on time, meeting cost, quality, and productivity metrics.

Sourcing Function:

Request for Quotation (RFQ) with suppliers for price, payment term and lead time comparison for the best interest of Company

Develop supplier base by actively sourcing, evaluating and conducting negotiation process

Conduct regular supplier's performance evaluation on Quality, OTD, Cost, Services, and propose improvements

Monitor and expedite delivery with suppliers to ensure on time delivery

Other duties and responsibilities assigned by managers

Source and procure materials, including but not limited to machining, stamping, plastic components etc..

Evaluate and select suppliers based on technical and quality requirements.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure material readiness for new product launches.

Technical Function:

Review engineering drawings and ensure RFQ compliance to customer requirements and specifications

To review the new drawing machining capabilities and provide the process flow, estimate process cycle time and production lead time for cost estimation

Participating in continuous improvement initiatives at supplier side to identify opportunities for process optimization and innovation. Staying informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in CNC machining.

Continuously working with supplier to optimize CNC machining processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize waste.

Work with supplier to maintain product quality by implementing robust quality control measures throughout the CNC machining process. This includes monitoring key performance indicators,conducting quality inspections, and troubleshooting quality issues together with Supplier Quality Engineer

Analysis on the production data for any improvement needed.

REQUIREMENTS

Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Minimum 5 years related working experience in the manufacturing environment, preferably with CNC knowledgeand surface treatment

Well versed with mechanical processes, including turning, milling, turn mill, 5-axis CNC machines

Read mechanical drawings with 2D/3D, familiar with GD&T

Technical expertise in Zeiss CMM will be an advantage
