WEO OPTRONICS SDN.BHD. is seeking a Product Engineer to drive New Product Introduction (NPI) and transfer/start-up projects from First Article to Mass Production.

You will coordinate with engineering, production, quality, supply chain, and sales to ensure timely delivery and milestone achievement. You will conduct market research and competitive analysis to inform strategic decisions and support sales performance, profitability, and sustainability goals.

Qualifications

• 2 years of experience in NPI/First Article Qualification / Product Transfer in manufacturing is preferred; fresh graduates welcome.
• Experience in project management within a manufacturing environment (engineering/production coordination).
• Experience in CNC machining, fabrication, or precision manufacturing is an advantage.
• Knowledge of optics/opt o-assembly is an advantage.
• Strong project management and coordination skills.

The Product Engineer will be actively involved in New Product Introduction (NPI) and transfer/start-up projects, ensuring successful execution from First Article (FA) to Mass Production (MP). The role requires close coordination and communication with customers and cross-functional teams (Engineering, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, and Sales) to ensure smooth program execution, timely delivery, and achievement of project milestones.

The Product Engineer will also be responsible for conducting market research and competitive analysis, including evaluation of competitors, consumer requirements, and emerging technology trends. These insights will be used to support strategic business decisions and to drive the company’s sales performance, profitability, and long-term sustainability goals.

In addition, the role is involved from the early quotation stage, supporting cost estimation, technical feasibility review, and RFQ preparation, through to full project execution, ensuring each program is successfully transitioned from quotation → FA → pilot run → MP release.

Primary Job Duties

1. New product introduction management

• To coordinate transfer or initial conceptual design to production phase
• To collaborate with supply chain for outsourcing activities
• Project Risk assessment and mitigation
• To deal with production team for delivery commitment
• To ensure the first article parts are processed and adhere to meet schedule.
• Understand the product development process and related procedure to support project milestones from technical and manufacturing standpoint.
• Drive first pass yield improvement on new products.
• Project leader to prepare project Gantt chart and set up cross function project team.
• Review customer drawings, bill of material and specification.
• Lead to resolve any technical issues arise during FA stage.
• Develop, analyse, and record permanent solution for any problem encountered during project implementation.
• Continue work with customer’s to improve quality, productivity and cost. Provide technical support for new product release.
• Identify, initiate and lead projects to improve productivity, yields and quality through root cause analysis and problem solving for FA
• Focus on product profitability and competitiveness in the market.

2. Quotation preparation

• Review and understand customer's RFQ inquiry.
• Use cost estimation methodology to work out product cost and price for quotation.
• Communicate with colleagues in Sales and customer on pricing and technical matters.
• Communicate with information provider (Engineering/Production, Supply Chain, Supplier etc)
• Review draft quotation for completeness and error-free.
• Analyse RFQ data related to the responsible product category.
• P&L analysis

3. Understand market trend

• Study and understand current market trend.
• Understand customer portfolio and product base.

REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE

• Preferably 2 years of experience in NPI/First Article Qualification/Product Transfer activities/manufacturing industry. Fresh graduate are welcome to apply as well.
• Exposure to project management in manufacturing environment (engineering / production coordination)
• Experience in CNC machining, fabrication, or precision manufacturing is an advantage
• Knowledge in Optics / Opto-assembly is an advantage
• Strong project management and coordination skills

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Manufacturing Engineering / Industrial Engineering or equivalent
• Diploma holders with strong relevant experience may be considered
• Knowledge of engineering drawing (2D/3D), GD&T preferred
• Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks / AutoCAD or similar) is an advantage
• Basic understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, assembly, fabrication)
• Knowledge of quality tools (FMEA, 8D, Root Cause Analysis, Control Plan) is an advantage

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Able to handle multiple projects and tight deadlines
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
• Hands-on with production and engineering issues
• High level of responsibility, ownership, and attention to detail
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel (tracking, costing, reporting)
