Job summary

Next Energy Sdn. Bhd. in Penang is seeking a Solar Project Engineer to design, plan, and implement solar PV projects, with emphasis on safety, quality, and timely delivery.

You will perform site assessments, create system layouts and BOMs, run energy simulations, and provide on-site technical support during installation, while working closely with Sales to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.

Qualifications

• Diploma / Advanced Diploma / Professional Certificate in Engineering or related field.
• 1–3 years of experience in solar PV design, engineering, or related roles.
• Willingness to travel and possess own transportation.

Responsibilities

• Design, review, and optimise solar PV systems in compliance with client requirements, local regulations, and industry standards.
• Work with Sales to develop accurate technical designs and solutions.
• Prepare system layouts, calculations, simulations, and BOMs.
• Conduct site assessments, shading analysis, and solar resource evaluations.
• Use modelling software to estimate energy output, ROI, and payback periods.
• Prepare and submit permit and approval documents to authorities.
• Liaise with authorities for licensing and approvals.
• Provide technical guidance and on-site support during installation.
• Implement quality control measures and ensure safety standards.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and ensure system performance meets specifications.
• Maintain project documentation, drawings, and reports.
• Monitor project progress and prepare weekly/monthly status reports.
• Support technical discussions during proposals and client meetings.
• Ensure system testing, commissioning, and readiness prior to handover.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

Job description

We are looking for a motivated Solar Project Engineer to support the design, planning, and implementation of solar PV projects. This role is ideal for candidates who are passionate about renewable energy and eager to grow their technical and project management skills.

Key Responsibilities

Design, review, and optimise solar PV systems in compliance with client requirements, local regulations, and industry standards.

Work closely with the Sales team to develop accurate technical designs and solutions.

Prepare system layouts, calculations, simulations, and Bills of Materials (BOM).

Conduct site assessments, shading analysis, and solar resource evaluations.

Use modelling software to estimate energy output, ROI, and payback periods.

Prepare and submit permit and approval documents to relevant authorities.

Liaise with SEDA, ST, TNB, consultants, and local authorities for licensing and approvals.

Provide technical guidance and on-site support during installation works.

Implement quality control measures and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Troubleshoot technical issues and ensure system performance meets specifications.

Maintain accurate project documentation, drawings, and reports.

Monitor project progress and prepare weekly and monthly status reports.

Support technical discussions during proposals and client meetings.

Ensure system testing, commissioning, and readiness prior to handover.

Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

Job Specification

Diploma / Advanced Diploma / Professional Certificate or equivalent in Engineering or a related field.

1–3 years of experience in solar PV design, engineering, or related roles.

Willingness to travel and possess own transportation.

Technical/Functional skills

Strong time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.

Knowledge of electrical systems, codes, and solar PV technologies.

Familiarity with solar design software and simulation tools is an advantage.

Good analytical and problem-solving skills.

Strong attention to detail.

Familiarity with relevant regulations and permitting processes.

Proficient in written and spoken English and Bahasa Melayu; Mandarin is an added advantage.
