Job summary

SC Estate Builder Berhad in Malaysia is seeking an experienced Solar Plant Project Site Engineer to oversee solar power design and site execution from inception to completion. The role covers both plant and rooftop projects with coordination among clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and authorities.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in solar PV design and installation, strong technical skills in AutoCAD and PVsyst, and knowledge of Malaysian regulations.

Qualifications

  • Degree/Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in solar PV design, installation, site supervision, testing, or commissioning.
  • Experience with solar power plants and rooftop solar projects is preferred.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and PVsyst; HelioScope/SketchUp experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Malaysian solar PV regulations and TNB requirements.

SC Estate Builder Berhad is seeking an experienced Solar Plant Project Site Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. This is a full-time position based in Selangor, where you will play a crucial role in overseeing the technical implementation and execution of solar plant projects from inception to completion. As a Site Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget while maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance. This role is integral to our commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions and driving sustainable development across our project portfolio.

Job Summary

We are looking for a Solar Engineer with strong technical and site experience to handle both solar PV system design and project site execution. The role covers the full project lifecycle, including site assessment, system design, engineering, installation supervision, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and project handover.

The successful candidate will be involved in both solar power plant projects and rooftop solar installations, working closely with clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, project managers, TNB, and relevant authorities.

Key Responsibilities

Solar PV Design & Engineering

  • Design and develop solar PV systems for solar power plants, commercial & industrial (C&I) rooftops, and other applications.

  • Conduct site surveys and assess site conditions, solar potential, shading, roof conditions, electrical infrastructure, and system feasibility.

  • Perform PV system sizing, energy yield calculations, electrical calculations, and system performance analysis.

  • Prepare PV layouts, single-line diagrams (SLD), electrical drawings, equipment layouts, cable routing, and other engineering drawings.

  • Design DC and AC electrical systems, including PV strings, inverters, cables, protection systems, earthing, and related equipment.

  • Select suitable PV modules, inverters, mounting structures, cables, protection devices, and other system components.

  • Prepare Bills of Materials (BOM), equipment specifications, technical proposals, and engineering documentation.

  • Carry out solar simulations and energy yield assessments using software such as PVsyst, AutoCAD, HelioScope, SketchUp, or equivalent.

  • Review and verify engineering drawings, calculations, equipment datasheets, and technical submissions.

  • Ensure designs comply with applicable Malaysian standards, electrical regulations, TNB requirements, and project specifications.

  • Assist with technical submissions and coordination with consultants, TNB, Suruhanjaya Tenaga, and other relevant authorities where required.

  • Take responsibility for technical activities at solar power plant and rooftop solar project sites.

  • Supervise and monitor solar PV installation works to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and project schedules.

  • Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, clients, and site teams.

  • Inspect installation of PV modules, mounting structures, inverters, DC/AC cables, earthing systems, protection equipment, and associated electrical works.

  • Provide technical solutions and resolve engineering issues encountered during construction.

  • Monitor project progress and ensure installation works are completed according to the approved design.

  • Conduct site inspections and prepare inspection reports, punch lists, and progress documentation.

  • Ensure proper implementation of rooftop PV installation and working-at-height requirements.

  • Monitor solar power plant construction activities, including PV arrays, inverter stations, cable routes, earthing, AC/DC systems, and associated equipment.

  • Coordinate material delivery, installation, inspection, and technical acceptance.

  • Plan and supervise testing and commissioning of solar PV systems.

  • Perform or coordinate PV string testing, polarity testing, insulation resistance testing, continuity testing, earthing testing, and other relevant electrical tests.

  • Support inverter commissioning and system energisation.

  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and PV system issues during commissioning.

  • Verify system performance against design expectations.

  • Prepare testing, commissioning, and handover documentation.

  • Coordinate between the design and site teams to ensure the actual installation follows the approved design.

  • Prepare and maintain engineering documents, site reports, inspection reports, test reports, commissioning records, and as-built drawings.

  • Review site changes and update drawings and documentation accordingly.

  • Assist the Project Manager in meeting project schedule, cost, quality, safety, and performance requirements.

  • Support project handover and ensure all technical documentation is completed.

  • Travel to project sites throughout Malaysia as required.

Job Requirements
  • Degree/Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in solar PV design, installation, site supervision, testing, or commissioning.

  • Experience in both solar PV design and site execution will be highly advantageous.

  • Experience with solar power plants and rooftop solar projects is preferred.

  • Proficient in or familiar with AutoCAD and PVsyst; experience with HelioScope, SketchUp, or similar software is an advantage.

  • Good understanding of DC/AC electrical systems, PV modules, inverters, protection systems, cable sizing, earthing, and grid-connected PV systems.

  • Able to read and prepare electrical drawings, SLDs, PV layouts, and technical documentation.

  • Knowledge of Malaysian solar PV regulations, TNB requirements, and relevant electrical standards is an advantage.

  • Strong technical, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Good communication and coordination skills with contractors, clients, consultants, and suppliers.

  • Able to work independently and manage both office-based design work and project site activities.

  • Willing to travel and work at project sites throughout Malaysia.

  • Possess a valid driving licence.

  • Candidates with GCPV, Wireman, Chargeman, or other relevant certifications will have an added advantage.
