As an O&M Support Engineer specializing in Telecommunication Networks, you will play a vital role in the maintenance, optimization, and expansion of our telecommunications infrastructure. This role requires extensive work at heights, including climbing towers and working on rooftops, to install, maintain, and troubleshoot telecommunications equipment. You will work on a shift basis, leading a team of technicians and collaborating with engineers to ensure the optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency of our network systems. Travel to various sites will be a key part of this role.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee the monitoring, maintenance, and optimization of telecommunication network systems to ensure seamless performance and reliability
- Work on a rotating shift basis to provide 24/7 support for network operations and maintenance
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to technicians in performing maintenance tasks, troubleshooting network issues, and implementing network upgrades and expansions
- Lead the configuration, installation, and maintenance of active network elements such as eNodeB, transmission (TX) wired and wireless equipment, routers, switches, amplifiers, and signal processors to ensure efficient data transmission and network operation
- Manage passive infrastructure components including cables, connectors, fiber optic distribution panels, enclosures, and mechanical and electrical (M&E) elements such as diesel generators (gensets) for backup power, air conditioning units for climate control, and surveillance cameras for physical security
- Plan, coordinate, and execute network maintenance and upgrade projects, including site surveys, equipment procurement, installation, integration, and acceptance testing
- Conduct on-site visits to various locations, including cell towers, rooftops, and other elevated structures, performing installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting tasks at heights
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment inventories, site assessments, and project documentation, and provide regular reports to management on network performance, project status, and resource utilization
- Collaborate with internal teams, including Network Operations Center (NOC) staff, technicians, and project managers, as well as external vendors and contractors, to coordinate activities and address network-related issues efficiently
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, participate in training programs and professional development activities, and implement best practices to enhance network performance and reliability
About you
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Proven experience in telecommunication network operations and maintenance, with demonstrated leadership skills and project management experience
- Proficiency in using network monitoring tools, diagnostic equipment, and project management software
- Strong technical aptitude with a solid understanding of telecommunication protocols, networking principles, and M&E systems
- Ability to work effectively at heights and in challenging outdoor environments, with a commitment to safety and compliance with industry regulations
- Experience in working at heights, including using safety equipment such as harnesses, ladders, and aerial lifts
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to troubleshooting and a track record of driving solutions to complex technical challenges
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead a team, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and communicate technical information clearly and concisely
- Flexibility to travel to various sites and work on a rotating shift basis, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
