Job summary

Johnson Matthey Plc in Malaysia is seeking a Senior Database Engineer to design, implement and manage SQL Server environments across on‑premises and Azure. You will lead HA/DR, security, and performance tuning to ensure SLA targets are met.

The role requires 5+ years of experience with SQL Server 2016/2019/2022, a strong automation mindset with PowerShell, and collaboration with infrastructure, cloud, and security teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on Microsoft SQL Server administration in enterprise environments.
• Strong experience with SQL Server 2016/2019/2022 and newer versions.
• Proven ability to manage SQL Server in on‑premises and Azure.
• High availability, disaster recovery, and security are required.
• Automation and scripting with PowerShell and T‑SQL are essential.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, administer, and support SQL Server environments (on‑prem and Azure).
• Manage lifecycle activities: install, patch, upgrade, migrate, capacity planning.
• Administer Azure SQL services including VM, Database, and Managed Instance.
• Design and maintain HA/DR solutions and security controls.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize performance; provide coaching.
• Lead upgrade/migration projects with minimal business disruption.
• Support Power BI reporting back-ends and analytics platforms.
• Develop automation using PowerShell, T-SQL, and Azure automation.
