Job summary

Great Eastern Malaysia is hiring a Senior Software Engineer – IT to lead design and delivery of core insurance applications on the AS/400 stack. You will drive requirements, architecture, and testing, ensuring robust, scalable solutions for our life and general insurance platforms.

The ideal candidate has 4–6 years in applications development, strong COBOL/AS400 skills, and experience in insurance systems. A proactive, independent problem-solver with good communication talents will thrive here.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science/IT/IS or equivalent, or Higher Diploma with 3+ years in software development.
• 4-6 years experience in applications development.
• Experience in insurance is an added advantage.

Responsibilities

• Lead workshops and gather information; analyze requirements.
• Design and document applications and databases to meet business needs.
• Provide solutions for complex programming tasks.
• Develop test scenarios and document results with follow-up actions.
• Lead feasibility studies on strategic IT solutions affecting GE business.

The Role:

• Conduct workshops and facilitate collection of information. Apply relevant analysis methodology.
• Design and document application and database according to the application and data model to meet the business functional requirements.
• Provide solutions and guidance for complex programming solutions.
• Analyse and design test scenarios and test cases based on business and/or technical requirements. Consolidate, report and recommend follow on actions based on test results obtained.
• Plan in advance base on business and technology trends.
• Lead a team to conduct complex feasibility studies on strategic IT solutions that has critical or long term impact to GE business.
• Define, design and apply enterprise architecture
• Planning & Organisation (Night batch job support / Conduct walkthrough of requirements and preparation of documentation for users' sign-off)
• Identify/Analyse/Document business requirements.
• Maintain awareness of industry trends on regulatory compliance, emerging threats and technologies in order to understand the risk and better safeguard the company
• Highlight any potential concerns /risks and proactively shares best risk management practices
• Other responsibilities entailed

The Person:

• Degree in Computer Science/IT/ IS or its equivalent. Alternatively, Higher Diploma in the same discipline with at least 3 years working experience in software development.
• Minimum 4-6 year experience in applications development.
• Experience in insurance is an added advantage.
