Job summary

Great Eastern Life Malaysia is seeking a Lead, Application Developer (Data Driven Business) to lead data integration, ETL, and data-mart design on the Big Data Platform. You will analyze requirements, implement solutions, and provide production support across batch and real-time data workflows.

The role requires 5–8 years of relevant experience with Java/Scala and Talend, plus hands-on Big Data tooling. Expect a challenging environment with strong governance and collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or equivalent.
• 5–8 years of relevant work experience.
• At least 3 years hands-on experience in Java/Scala.
• At least 2 years experience with Talend for data ingestion and transformations.
• At least 2 years working with Big Data platforms (Cloudera/Hortonworks) and tools (Hive, Sqoop, Kafka).
• Proficient in Hadoop architecture and designing data marts/operational data stores.

Responsibilities

• Estimate, plan and track requests raised by users on Big Data requirements and DataMart.
• Analyse user requirements (new/change requests) and develop solutions for implementation.
• Implement and maintain ETL processes on the Big Data Platform.
• Monitor ETL job performance on the Big Data Platform and provide recommendations.
• Perform batch and real-time production support.
• Design data models to integrate data from multiple sources into Big Data Platform/DataMart.
• Keep abreast of regulatory compliance and emerging threats to safeguard the company.
• Highlight potential concerns/risks and share best risk management practices.
• Carry out other responsibilities as needed.

The Role:

• Estimate, plan and track all requests that are raised by various users on Big Data Requirements and DataMart.
• To analyse the user requirements (new / change requests) and develop solutions for implementation.
• Implementing and maintaining ETL process from on the Big Data Platform.
• Monitoring performance of the ETL jobs in Big Data Platform and provide recommendations (where necessary).
• To perform batch and real time production support
• Design data models to integrate data from multiple data sources to be implemented in Big Data Platform / DataMart
• Maintain awareness of industry trends on regulatory compliance, emerging threats and technologies in order to understand the risk and better safeguard the company
• Highlight any potential concerns /risks and proactively shares best risk management practice.
• Other responsibilities entailed

The Person:

• Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor's Degree, Post Graduate Diploma, Professional Degree, Computer Science/Information Technology or equivalent.
• At least 5 - 8 year(s) of working experience in the related field is required for this position.
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience in java / scala.
• At least 2 years of Talend experience ingesting and doing complex transformations.
• At least 2 years experiences in Big data platforms such as Cloudera/Hortonworks is a must Good knowledge of Big Data tools, such as hive, sqoop, kafka.
• Proficient understanding of Hadoop and its architecture.
• Must be experienced in designing, architecting, development and deployment datamarts, operational data stores.
• Experience in RDBMS database such as Oracle, DB2, Mysql is an advantage.
• Should be well versed with all Big Data and DWH concepts and architecture.
• Strong communication, client management and offshore coordination experience.
• High level of integrity, takes accountability of work and good attitude over teamwork.
• Takes initiative to improve current state of things and adaptable to embrace new changes.
