Job summary

Sapura Secured Technologies in Malaysia seeks a senior software engineer to design, develop, and maintain secure, high-availability software for mission-critical communications platforms. You will own delivery across the full stack, from C/C++ system components and backend services to databases and web/mobile front-ends.

You will mentor junior engineers, integrate telecom protocols, and ensure secure-by-design engineering practices in Linux/Windows environments.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of professional software development experience.
• At least 3 years in full-stack development spanning front-end, backend, and database layers.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer/Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or related field.
• Master's degree and security certifications preferred.
• Experience in mission-critical communications and Agile/Scrum teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop full-stack applications for mission-critical platforms, covering responsive web front-ends (TypeScript, Angular/React), backend microservices (Node.js, Java), and RESTful, WebSocket, and event-driven APIs.
• Develop, maintain, and optimise C/C++ applications, applying modern C++ (C++11/14/17), multithreading, memory management, and performance tuning on Linux and Windows, including Qt/QML desktop clients.
• Design, implement, and tune relational and spatial databases (PostgreSQL/PostGIS), including schema design, query optimisation, indexing, stored procedures, replication, backup, and data migration for high-availability deployments.
• Integrate telecommunication and mission-critical protocols, including TETRA interfaces, 3GPP MCX (MCPTT, MCData, MCVideo), SIP/RTP-based VoIP, and proprietary messaging protocols, into mission-critical applications.
• Implement real-time voice, video, and data services, including audio/video streaming and processing (e.g. FFmpeg, MediaMTX, RTSP, WebRTC) and messaging middleware (e.g. RabbitMQ, MQTT).
• Apply secure software development practices throughout the lifecycle, including secure coding (OWASP, SEI CERT C/C++), authentication and authorisation (OAuth2/OIDC, RBAC), TLS/PKI and encryption of data at rest and in transit, and remediation of findings from code scans, security assessments, and penetration tests.
• Develop and support Android applications (Java/Kotlin, JNI) for ruggedised and professional field devices, and integrate third-party hardware and software SDKs.
• Build, containerise, and deploy applications using Git, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines across on-premise, hybrid, and air-gapped government environments.
• Produce and maintain technical work products, including software design documents, interface control documents, API specifications, database schemas, and deployment guides, in line with CMMI Technical Solution, Product Integration, and Configuration Management practices.
• Perform unit and integration testing, participate in peer code reviews, and support Verification and Validation (VER/VAL), Factory and Site Acceptance Tests (FAT/SAT), and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
• Provide Level-3 technical support, troubleshoot production incidents and root causes, and deliver timely fixes for deployed systems at customer sites.
• Mentor junior engineers, lead technical design discussions and code reviews, and contribute to architecture decisions, effort estimation, and continuous improvement of engineering standards.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum 5-7 years of professional software development experience, including at least 3 years in full-stack development spanning front-end, backend, and database layers.
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on C/C++ development, including maintaining and enhancing large or legacy production codebases.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer/Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related field.
• Preferred: Master's degree in a related field; secure software or security certification (e.g. CSSLP, CompTIA Security+, CEH); database or cloud/container certification (e.g. PostgreSQL, AWS/Azure, CKA); CMMI-related process training.
• Experience in mission-critical communications, public safety, defence, or command-and-control systems; Android development for ruggedised devices; real-time audio/video streaming; working within CMMI Level 3 (or higher) appraised organisations and Agile/Scrum teams; familiarity with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, GitLab, or YouTrack.
• Experience designing, optimising, and administering relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server) for production systems.
• Experience integrating network and telecommunication protocols (e.g. TCP/UDP, SIP/RTP, TETRA, 3GPP MCX) in real-time or mission-critical applications.
