Job summary

Techstreet Malaysia seeks an experienced backend engineer to lead the design and development of scalable microservices with Java, Spring Boot, and ORM technologies. You will own system architecture, drive SDLC activities, and mentor junior engineers in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires strong SQL tuning, cloud experience with Docker/Kubernetes on AWS, and hands-on monitoring with Prometheus and Grafana. Mandarin communication is valued for collaboration with regional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a computing field.
• 4–5+ years of enterprise backend experience with Java.
• Deep expertise in Java (11/17+), Spring, and ORM (JPA/Hibernate).
• Proven microservices, event-driven design, API Gateway, and RESTful services.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and architectural decisions for scalable microservices using Java, Spring Boot, and ORM.
• Drive full SDLC: specs, architecture, code reviews, tests, and deployment strategies.
• Design, optimize, and maintain complex relational databases with SQL tuning and indexing.
• Architect and manage cloud infra with Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS services.
• Set up observability and logging with Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, and ELK/Jaeger.
• Mentor junior/mid engineers via code reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Lead RCA, troubleshooting, and mitigation of production incidents and security issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine requirements and drive improvements.
• Evaluate new tech and patterns to elevate development standards.

Job description

• Lead the design, architectural decision-making, and development of scalable microservices using Java, Spring Boot, Spring Security, and Spring Data JPA / Hibernate.
• Drive the full software development life cycle (SDLC), including technical specification drafting, system architecture design, code review, automated testing, and deployment strategies.
• Design, optimize, and maintain complex relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle), including complex SQL tuning, indexing strategies, and database sharding or partitioning.
• Architect and manage cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines using Docker, Kubernetes (K8s), and AWS services (EC2, EKS, RDS, SQS/SNS, Lambda).
• Set up and maintain system observability, central logging, and distributed tracing solutions (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, ELK Stack, Jaeger) to guarantee high availability and performance.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through regular code reviews, technical guidance, and team knowledge-sharing sessions.
• Lead troubleshooting, root-cause analysis (RCA), and resolution of high-severity production incidents, performance bottlenecks, and security vulnerabilities.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, technical leads, and stakeholders to refine requirement scope, provide technical estimates, and drive system improvements.
• Evaluate, benchmark, and introduce emerging technologies, architectural patterns, and framework updates to continuously improve development standards

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 4 to 5+ years of working experience in enterprise backend software engineering using Java.
• Advanced, deep technical expertise in Java (Java 11 / 17+), Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring Security, and ORM frameworks (JPA/Hibernate).
• Proven track record in microservices architecture, event-driven design (e.g., Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ), API Gateway implementations, and RESTful web service design.
• Hands-on production experience with containerization (Docker), container orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS), and public cloud platforms (AWS).
• Strong expertise in SQL optimization, database indexing, query execution planning, and distributed transaction management.
• Practical experience configuring monitoring, alerting, and APM tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, New Relic, or ELK Stack).
• Able to read, speak, and write in Mandarin to effectively communicate and collaborate with Mandarin-speaking clients and regional technical teams.
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and system design skills with the ability to lead technical discussions and drive architecture decisions independently.
