Monroe Consulting Group, an Executive Recruitment firm, is partnering with a leading organisation in the Information Technology sector to hire a Senior Platform Engineer. This opportunity is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Position Overview
This role will design, build, and evolve core platform infrastructure that powers enterprise-grade digital products and intelligent software solutions. They will drive scalability, reliability, and engineering excellence by developing foundational systems that enable high-impact customer and business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Core Platform Architecture & Development
- Design, build, and evolve critical platform components such as API services, workflow engines, orchestration systems, data processing infrastructure, and intelligent platform services.
- Own major platform subsystems, including architecture, implementation, testing, and long-term maintainability.
- Ensure platform components are robust, extensible, and production-ready.
2. Platform Enablement
- Identify operational and technical challenges impacting delivery teams and customer deployments.
- Build abstractions, APIs, and tooling that improve implementation efficiency and deployment reliability.
- Translate real-world deployment leanings into scalable platform capabilities.
3. Technical Excellence & Engineering Standards
- Establish and uphold standards for code quality, testing, observability, performance, and reliability.
- Review solution designs and code while providing mentor-ship and technical guidance.
- Drive engineering best practices for building and operating complex production systems.
4. Infrastructure & Platform Evolution
- Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies, frameworks, databases, and platform tooling.
- Make strategic decisions on platform capabilities, technical investments, and architectural direction.
- Contribute to long-term platform and infrastructure strategy.
5. Scalability, Reliability & Cost Optimisation
- Design systems capable of supporting large-scale data processing and operational workloads.
- Address challenges related to performance, fault tolerance, observability, security, and cost optimisation.
- Ensure platforms meet enterprise expectations for up time, resilience, and operational stability.
Key Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 4-8 years of professional experience building backend, infrastructure, platform, or distributed systems.
- Proven experience designing and operating production-grade distributed systems.
- Experience working within cloud-native and enterprise technology environments.
- Ability to operate independently and make sound technical decisions in complex environments.
Technical / Functional Expertise
- Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including system design, testing, scalability, and maintainability.
- Proven experience building cloud-native solutions on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and containerisation technologies such as Terraform and Docker.
- Strong proficiency in at least one back end or systems programming language, including Go, Python, Java, or TypeScript.
- Experience building platforms, frameworks, or shared services used across multiple teams.
- Strong understanding of APIs, workflow orchestration, and distributed architecture principles.
- Experience with data ingestion, transformation, and large-scale data processing.
- Familiarity with modern AI infrastructure, Large Language Models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector databases, or intelligent automation platforms.
- Experience with enterprise data platforms and modern cloud ecosystems is advantageous.
