Job summary

A Star Advanced Technologies Sdn Bhd is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to support NPI, product development, tooling and manufacturing across Southeast Asia. You will own projects from kickoff through DFM, quotation, prototype, tooling and production launch, working with plastics, metals and sheet metal components.

The ideal candidate has 3–8 years of experience, strong CAD skills (SolidWorks/Creo/Inventor) and is fluent in English, with willingness to travel to supplier and manufacturing

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical-related field required.
• 3–8 years of relevant engineering or manufacturing experience.
• Experience with plastic and/or metal components and tooling.

Responsibilities

• Own assigned new projects from kickoff through production launch.
• Review customer drawings, specifications, BOMs and project requirements.
• Coordinate with Sourcing, Quality, Program Management, suppliers and customers to hit milestones.
• Lead technical discussions during new product development.
• Identify engineering, tooling, material and manufacturing risks early.
• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD.
• Lead DFM reviews for new products and mitigate manufacturing risks.
• Work with suppliers on mold, die and tooling development.
• Coordinate engineering activities for prototype and first article builds.
• Resolve technical and manufacturing issues with suppliers.

We are looking for a highly capable and hands‑on Mechanical Engineer to support New Product Introduction (NPI), product development, supplier development, tooling and manufacturing across our Southeast Asia operations. The ideal candidate is a strong engineering thinker with experience in plastic (primary), metal, sheet metal, CNC machining, die casting, stamping, secondary processes, tooling and mechanical assemblies. This is a hands‑on role. The engineer will take ownership of new projects from kickoff through DFM, quotation, supplier development, prototype, tooling, FAI, qualification and production launch.

Key responsibilities

• Own assigned new projects from kickoff through production launch
• Review customer drawings, specifications, BOMs and project requirements
• Coordinate with Sourcing, Quality, Program Management, suppliers and customers to achieve project milestones
• Lead technical discussions during new product development
• Identify engineering, tooling, material and manufacturing risks early
• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD
• Lead DFM reviews for new products and identify manufacturing risks before tooling is released
• Work directly with suppliers on mold, die and tooling development
• Coordinate engineering activities for prototype and first article builds
• Work directly with suppliers to resolve technical and manufacturing issues

About you

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or related discipline
• 3-8 years of relevant engineering, NPI or manufacturing experience
• Experience with plastic (primary) and/or metal components
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and tooling
• Good understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T
• Experience with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor or equivalent
• Experience working with suppliers or contract manufacturersGood English communication skills. Able to speak Chinese and Malay
• Willing to travel to suppliers and manufacturing sites when required
