• Experience designing systems for government or defence in regulated industries.
• Strong knowledge of engineering standards and quality assurance.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for government and defence sector projects.
• Prepare detailed mechanical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation using CAD software and industry best practices.
• Conduct design reviews, feasibility studies, and value engineering analyses to optimise performance and cost-effectiveness.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure integrated system design.
• Perform stress analysis, simulation, and finite element analysis (FEA) to validate design integrity and safety.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior design engineers and drafting staff.
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and quality assurance protocols for government and defence applications.
• Participate in prototype development, testing, and troubleshooting to refine designs.
• Manage design modifications and implement continuous improvements based on testing feedback and client requirements.
• Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure feasibility and cost-effectiveness of designs.

In this role, you will play a crucial part in designing and developing mechanical systems and components for government and defence sector projects. As a Senior Mechanical Designer, you will be responsible for leading design initiatives, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring that all mechanical designs meet stringent industry standards, regulatory requirements, and project specifications. Your expertise will be instrumental in delivering high-quality automation solutions that support critical infrastructure and defence applications.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline; postgraduate qualifications are advantageous
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in mechanical design, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead role
• Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or CATIA
• Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes
• Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and simulation software
• Demonstrated experience in designing systems for government, defence, or highly regulated industries
• Excellent understanding of engineering standards and quality assurance processes
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet strict deadlines
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to guide and develop junior team members
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients and stakeholders
• Problem-solving mindset with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement
• Knowledge of Malaysian and international industry standards relevant to government and defence applications is preferred
• Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, or automation systems is advantageous
