Job summary

Private Advertiser in Malaysia's Ulu Tiram, Johor, seeks an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead mechanical design initiatives for carbon-related projects. The role involves guiding projects from conception to implementation and mentoring junior staff.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in mechanical design, strong CAD/FEA skills (SOLIDWORKS/AutoCAD), and a solid grasp of DFM, materials science, and industry standards. A PE certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline from a recognised institution.
• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably in manufacturing, carbon products, or related industries.
• Advanced proficiency with CAD software (SOLIDWORKS, AutoCAD) and FEA analysis tools.
• Strong understanding of mechanical principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes.
• Demonstrated expertise in design for manufacturability (DFM), cost optimisation, and product lifecycle management.
• Excellent project management skills with the ability to lead multiple design projects simultaneously.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to mentor and guide junior team members.
• Knowledge of relevant engineering standards, codes, and regulations (ISO, ASTM, or equivalent).
• Experience in the carbon, composites, or related material science fields is highly desirable.
• Professional Engineering (PE) certification or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of mechanical systems and components, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company specifications
• Conduct comprehensive mechanical analysis, including stress analysis, thermal analysis, and structural simulations using advanced CAD and FEA software
• Prepare detailed technical drawings, design documentation, and engineering specifications for manufacturing and assembly
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including process engineers, manufacturing specialists, and project managers to optimise designs for performance and cost-effectiveness
• Review and approve designs from junior engineers and technicians, providing constructive feedback and technical guidance
• Conduct design reviews and feasibility studies to identify potential improvements and innovative solutions
• Liaise with suppliers and vendors to ensure materials and components meet design requirements and quality standards
• Support troubleshooting and problem-solving for mechanical issues in production or field operations
• Stay current with industry advancements and emerging technologies in mechanical engineering and carbon-related applications
