Job summary

Evolvus Solutions Pvt Ltd is seeking an experienced specialist to analyze and extract data from legacy COBOL systems, including IDMS databases, using JCL, VSAM, and related technologies. The role focuses on designing robust extraction utilities, handling complex COBOL structures, and delivering Linux-friendly data formats.

You will document mappings, validate data, and mentor junior developers while supporting end-to-end testing of extraction processes.

Qualifications

Experience in COBOL, JCL, VSAM, QSAM, and CA IDMS (CV/IDMS).
Understanding of IDMS schema, subschema, DML, and database relationships.
Experience with legacy data extraction and mainframe-to-Linux integration.
Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

Analyze COBOL programs, copybooks, JCL, VSAM, QSAM, and CA IDMS to understand legacy data and logic.
Design and develop COBOL programs and mainframe utilities to extract data from VSAM, QSAM, and IDMS.
Develop IDMS extraction utilities handling complex relationships and multiple record types.
Handle COBOL structures: REDEFINES, OCCURS, OCCURS DEPENDING ON, COMP-3, and variable-length records.
Create extraction formats for Linux apps; convert data from EBCDIC to ASCII/UTF-8.
Document field mappings, record layouts, rules, relationships, and transformation logic.
Define extraction validation, reconciliation, and control mechanisms for data completeness and accuracy.
Provide technical guidance to juniors and support end-to-end testing.
