Job summary

ECRL OPERATION SDN. BHD. is seeking a Senior / Engineer to oversee Passenger & Freight Operations Systems, including Ticketing, Reservation and Freight management platforms.

You will configure system parameters, rules, and station routes, ensuring data integrity and smooth revenue/ freight operations. The role requires strong understanding of railway operational systems, plus 5–8 years in related sectors, with bilingual proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia and English (Mandarin a plus).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Railway Engineering or related field is required.
• Experience with railway operations systems and IT service management is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of passenger and/or freight operations is preferred.
• Proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia and English, with Mandarin an added advantage.
• Minimum 5–8 years of relevant working experience in railway or transportation industries.

Responsibilities

Senior / Engineer, Passenger & Freight Operations Systems

Administer and functionally manage the Ticketing & Reservation System, Freight Management System and other operational applications supporting passenger and freight services.

Configure and maintain operational parameters, business rules, system settings, service profiles and functional configurations in accordance with approved railway operating requirements.

Manage the functional configuration of ticketing and reservation services, including train services, stations, routes, fares, booking rules, quotas, reservation periods, cancellation parameters and other applicable passenger service settings.

Manage seat inventory, coach and seat-map configuration, seat allocation rules, booking limits and related parameters to ensure effective utilization of passenger capacity.

Manage the functional configuration of the Freight Management System, including freight services, terminals, routes, commodities, customers, wagon types, consignment information, freight booking and operational status.

Ensure the accuracy and integrity of freight master data, consignment information, wagon allocation, freight manifests, train formation data and other operational freight records.

Establish and maintain appropriate controls for operational master data, including stations, trains, routes, services, coaches, seats, wagons, commodities, customers and other system reference data.

Support system implementation, trial operation, operational readiness, go-live and post-implementation activities, ensuring that system configuration and operational data are correctly established before commencement of revenue or freight operations.

Investigate operational system incidents, identify whether issues originate from system configuration, application defects, interfaces, infrastructure or operational processes, and coordinate corrective actions with IT and system suppliers.

Evaluate proposed system changes and enhancements, assess their operational impact, coordinate testing and approvals, and ensure that approved changes are properly implemented and documented.

Act as the operational focal point for system suppliers, coordinating system defects, enhancements, technical support, configuration changes, system upgrades and service performance in accordance with contractual requirements and agreed SLAs.

Develop, maintain and analyze operational reports and system data relating to passenger bookings, seat utilization, ticketing activities, freight consignments, wagon utilization, freight movements and other relevant operational KPIs.

Manage functional user roles, permissions and access requirements within the operational systems in accordance with approved segregation‑of‑duty, access‑control and operational governance requirements, while coordinating technical security matters with IT.

Identify opportunities to improve system functionality, operational processes, data quality, passenger service, freight efficiency and system utilisation, and propose appropriate system enhancements and process improvements.

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Railway Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.

Professional qualification or certification in railway operations, systems engineering, IT service management, project management or related fields would be an advantage.

Good understanding of railway passenger and/or freight operations.

Good understanding of operational information systems and system administration.

Excellent communication and written in Bahasa Malaysia and English.

Strong analytical, problem‑solving and data management capabilities.

Minimum 5–8 years of relevant working experience, preferably in railway, public transportation, logistics, freight or other transportation‑related industries.

Experience in the functional administration or management of operational/business application systems.

Experience in at least one of the following:

• 4. Transport Management System
• 5. Railway Operations Management System
• Enterprise operational/business application

Experience in system configuration, master data management, and operational parameter settings.

Experience managing seat inventory, reservation rules, train services, or ticketing configuration.

Experience managing freight consignments, wagon allocation, train formation or freight manifests.
