Job summary

JS Solar Sdn Bhd in Malaysia seeks a draughtsperson with 1–3 years of experience in large-scale solar projects. You will produce 2D drawings using AutoCAD/StarCAD and develop 3D site layouts with SketchUp, Civil 3D, and Revit where applicable.

Join a team that coordinates with electrical, civil, and project groups, leads junior drafters, and ensures design quality from planning to as-built documentation.

Qualifications

• Minimum Diploma in Drafting, Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
• 1–3 years of drafting/design experience, preferably in solar projects.
• Proficient in 2D drafting with AutoCAD and StarCAD; able to prepare construction drawings.
• Proficient in 3D modelling with SketchUp; Civil 3D or Revit is a plus.

Job description

1) DRAWING PRODUCTION AND LSS DESIGN SUPPORT

Prepare preliminary, tender, construction, shop, and as-built drawings for LSS and other solar PV projects.

Produce and update PV layouts, equipment layouts, cable routing/trenching, roads, fencing, drainage interfaces, and other project drawings based on engineering inputs.

Translate engineering mark-ups, calculations, survey information, and design concepts into accurate and practical 2D drawings.

Coordinate drawing information with electrical, civil, structural, project, and site teams.

2) DRAWING TEMPLATE AND STANDARDIZATION

Develop, maintain, and improve company drawing templates, title blocks, symbols, layers, standard details, naming conventions, and drafting guidelines.

Establish reusable drawing libraries and project templates to improve drawing consistency, quality, and productivity.

3) 2D AND 3D DESIGN / MODELLING

Produce detailed 2D drawings using ZWCAD and/or GstarCAD.

Develop 3D models and site layouts using SketchUp for equipment arrangement, constructability review, presentation, and design coordination.

Support contour/site modelling and PVsyst shading-model preparation where required.

4) TEAM LEADERSHIP AND DRAWING REVIEW

Lead and guide junior drafters/designers in daily drawing production and project assignments.

Allocate drafting tasks according to project priorities and monitor progress against required submission dates.

Review junior team members' drawings for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance with drafting standards before engineering review.

Coach junior team members to improve CAD skills, drawing quality, and understanding of LSS/solar PV projects.

5) DRAWING COORDINATION AND REVISION CONTROL

Coordinate drawing comments and revisions with design engineers, project teams, consultants, clients, suppliers, and site personnel where required

Maintain proper revision control and ensure approved changes are incorporated into the latest drawings.

Identify clashes, missing information, or constructability concerns during drawing preparation and raise them to the responsible engineer.

6) SITE SURVEY AND AS-BUILT DOCUMENTATION

Coordinate actual site changes information and prepare accurate as-built drawings upon project completion.

7) QUALITY AND DOCUMENT CONTROL

Ensure drawings are accurate, properly formatted, and compliant with company standards, project specifications, and relevant design requirements.

Maintain organized drawing files, reference documents, drawing registers, and supporting design information.

Support continuous improvement of drafting workflows, templates, and drawing quality.

8) AD-HOC

Assist with other drafting, design coordination, and project-related assignments as required.

Who we're looking for:

Minimum Diploma in Drafting, Engineering, Architecture, or a related technical field.

Minimum 1 - 3 years of relevant drafting/design experience, preferably involving Large Scale Solar (LSS) or utility-scale solar PV projects.

Good working knowledge of LSS drawing requirements, including PV layout, equipment layout, cable routing/trenching, roads fencing, drainage interfaces, and other project drawings.

Proficient in 2D drafting using AutoCAD and/or starCAD and able to independently prepare construction, shop, and as-built drawings.

Proficient in 3D modelling using SketchUp; knowledge of Civil 3D and/or Revit will be an added advantage.

Able to develop and maintain standard drawing templates, title blocks, standard details, symbols, layers, and drafting conventions for the Design Department.

Able to review drawing quality, identify discrepancies, coordinate revisions, and maintain proper drawing/document control.

Able to lead, guide, and review junior drafters/designers, including assigning tasks and monitoring drawing progress against project schedules.

Strong attention to detail, communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills; civil and structural drafting knowledge for solar projects is an added advantage.
