Solarvest seeks a Civil 3D–proficient design engineer to support bid and project development for ground-mounted and rooftop solar PV projects in Malaysia. You will translate SI reports and topo surveys into site development packages—grading, drainage, and piling recommendations—feeding bids and detailed designs.

This hands-on role sits at the intersection of civil design and geotechnical interpretation, with mentorship from senior engineers as you build ownership of these workstreams.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
• Working knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D (surfaces, grading, corridors, volume calculations).
• Some exposure to drainage design principles and stormwater calculation methods.
• Willingness to read geotechnical/SI reports (SPT data, weathering grades, rock quality designation, groundwater).
• Basic familiarity with piling and foundation types is a plus.
• Good communication and a collaborative attitude - works with senior engineers and clients.
• 1–3 years of relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Job description

We're looking for a Civil 3D-proficient design engineer to support bid and project development for ground-mounted and rooftop solar PV projects. You'll work under the guidance of the Project Development Manager, helping turn site investigation (SI) reports and topographic surveys from clients into workable site development packages - grading and earthworks plans, drainage and retention pond designs, and piling method recommendations - that feed directly into technical bids and detailed design.

This is a hands-on technical role sitting at the intersection of civil design and geotechnical interpretation. You'll have direct mentorship and support from senior engineers as you build up ownership of these workstreams.

Topographic simulation & slope analysis

• Assist in importing and processing topographic survey data in Civil 3D to build existing-ground surface models
• Support slope and aspect analysis to help identify constraints for array layout, access roads, and platform levels
• Help simulate proposed grading scenarios against existing topography under senior engineer guidance
• Assist in developing cut & fill plans and proposed platform levels using Civil 3D grading tools
• Calculate cut and fill volumes and help prepare earthwork quantity take-offs for cost estimation
• Support iteration of grading strategy against site constraints - SI findings, slope limits, road access, and drainage
• Support catchment area delineation and peak runoff calculations using standard methods (e.g. Rational Method / MSMA or equivalent)
• Assist in designing drainage layouts, culverts, and site drainage networks tied to the grading plan
• Help size and site detention/retention ponds, including outlet structures and discharge control, under senior review
• Learn to read and interpret site investigation (SI) reports - borehole logs, SPT data, weathering grades, RQD/RQC, and groundwater levels
• Help map subsurface conditions against the proposed grading plan to identify founding conditions across zones
• Support piling/foundation method recommendations per zone, working closely with senior engineers and geotechnical consultants
• Flag where additional site investigation or specialist geotechnical input may be needed

• Support cost estimation for earthworks, drainage, and foundation scopes during bid preparation

Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
• Working knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D (surfaces, grading, corridors, volume calculations)
• Some exposure to drainage design principles and stormwater calculation methods
• Willingness and aptitude to learn to read geotechnical/SI reports (SPT data, weathering grades, rock quality designation, groundwater data)
• Basic familiarity with piling and foundation types (driven, screw/helical, micro-pile, drilled-grouted, spread footing) is a plus, not required
• Good communication skills and a collaborative attitude - this role works closely with senior engineers, clients' consultants, and internal teams
• 1-3 years of relevant experience preferred

Good to have

• Prior exposure to solar PV or renewable energy site development projects
• Familiarity with Malaysian regulatory bodies and standards relevant to site development (e.g. DOE, JPS, local authority drainage guidelines)
• Exposure to PVSyst, AutoCAD, PVCase or similar solar design tools
