Job summary

Cohu Malaysia Sdn Bhd is seeking a Senior Digital Hardware Design Engineer to design and develop advanced digital instrumentation for Automated Test Equipment (ATE). The role involves circuit design, schematic development, PCB layout collaboration, and hands-on debugging to meet demanding specifications.

You will work with cross-functional teams, including Software, Firmware, and Mechanical Engineering, and you should have 5–10 years of experience in digital hardware design.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of experience in digital hardware design; test equipment development desirable.
• Experience with digital instrumentation for ATE is a plus.
• Ability to design and interpret hardware block diagrams and schematics.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to design and development of advanced digital instrumentation for ATE.
• Apply digital instrumentation design concepts for tester architectures.
• Generate high-level functional block diagrams based on instrument architectures.
• Estimate circuit power consumption at the block diagram level and refine through design.
• Translate block diagrams into detailed circuit designs using Cadence Concept Schematic Capture.
• Collaborate with CAD engineers to transition schematic designs into PCB layouts (Allegro).
• Develop operation documents, define test strategies, and establish test setups and limits.
• Bring-up, debugging, and characterization of digital circuits.
• Validate circuit behavior against specifications and requirements.

We are looking for a Senior Digital Hardware Design Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing advanced digital instrumentation for ATE. This role involves circuit design, schematic development, PCB layout collaboration, hands-on debugging, and performance validation. You will also contribute to system-level discussions and work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, innovative solutions that meet demanding specifications.

Impact You Will Make

• Contribute to the design and development of advanced digital instrumentation for ATE (Automated Test Equipment).
• Apply understanding of digital instrumentation design concepts for test equipment (experience in tester architecture is a strong plus).
• Generate high-level functional block diagrams based on predefined instrument architectures.
• Estimate circuit power consumption at the block diagram level and refine through detailed design.
• Translate functional block diagrams into detailed circuit designs using Cadence Concept Schematic Capture.
• Collaborate with CAD engineers to transition schematic designs into PCB layouts, leveraging familiarity with layout tools such as Allegro.
• Develop theory of operation documents, define circuit test strategies, and establish test setups and limits.
• Perform bring-up, functional debugging, and characterization of digital circuits.
• Validate circuit behavior and performance against specifications and product requirements.

Our Ideal Candidate

• Experience: 5-10 years of experience in digital hardware design; prior work in test equipment development is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of digital circuit design at both gate level and transistor level.
• Ability to create and interpret hardware block diagrams and schematics.
• Familiarity with engineering, manufacturing, and customer requirements.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Software, Firmware, and Mechanical Engineering.
• Programming experience (C, C++, Python, LabVIEW, Verilog, etc.) is an advantage.
• Proficiency with simulation tools such as Spice, Verilog simulators, and 3D field solvers.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills, with hands-on laboratory experience.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality designs on time.
• Self-motivated, innovative, and passionate about technology development..
• Must be proficient in English both oral and written.
