Job summary

Jora Malaysia is seeking a Senior Commissioning Engineer to lead commissioning across Industrial (ETP) and Municipal facilities, from pre-commissioning to handover. You will ensure safe, high-quality project delivery and close collaboration with ME&I teams.

The role requires 5+ years in water/wastewater commissioning, willingness to travel ~50%, and Mandarin proficiency preferred for projects in China and other locations. Based in Malaysia, local and international site assignments are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline as listed.
• Minimum 5 years hands-on commissioning experience in water/wastewater.
• Willingness to travel up to ~50% of the time locally and overseas.
• Experience on overseas/international projects is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute all phases of commissioning activities from pre-commissioning to handover.
• Perform process, mechanical, instrumentation, and control system troubleshooting.
• Prepare checklists, test procedures, and commissioning reports for client handover.
• Collaborate with ME&I teams to ensure installation matches design intent.
• Support SATs, performance testing, and post-commissioning support.

The Senior Commissioning Engineer is responsible for executing and leading commissioning activities for Industrial (ETP) and Municipal Effluent Treatment Plants (STP) and Water Treatment Plants (UPW/Desalination). The role covers the full commissioning lifecycle—from pre-commissioning to handover—ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality project delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute all phases of commissioning activities, including:
• Process Commissioning
• Performance Testing
• Carry out documentation, client handover, and post-commissioning support.
• Perform troubleshooting during commissioning and plant start-up.
• Support Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and Performance Testing, ensuring successful client endorsement.
• Review engineering documents including:
• P&IDs
• Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
• Mass Balance Calculations
• Design Basis Reports
• Control Philosophy
• Prepare and review:
• Checklists
• Performance Test Procedures & Reports
• Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Operation & Maintenance (O&M) Manuals
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly commissioning progress reports.
• Manage commissioning punch lists and ensure timely closure.
• Analyse plant and process performance to identify equipment and operational issues.
• Troubleshoot process, mechanical, instrumentation, piping, and control system problems.
• Identify design, installation, or functional defects and recommend corrective actions.
• Provide technical feedback and ensure all commissioning issues are resolved effectively.
• Work closely with Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation & Control (ME&I) teams to ensure systems are installed and commissioned according to design intent.
• Collaborate with project teams to ensure smooth project execution, commissioning, and project close-out.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on commissioning experience in water and wastewater treatment systems.
• Proven experience executing overseas/international projects is highly preferred.
• Willingness to travel extensively (approximately 50%) to local and overseas project sites.
• Mandarin proficiency (spoken and written) is preferred to support projects in China, Taiwan, and other global locations.
