Job summary

SMEC (an SJ Group company) in Malaysia is seeking a Civil/Coastal Engineer with 5+ years of reclamation design experience to join our coastal project team. You will assist planning and design for civil engineering projects, locally and overseas, focusing on land reclamation, quay walls, ports and coastal structures.

You will prepare and review technical calculations, reports and drawings, manage subcontracts, supervise design and site work, and ensure compliance with statutory standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil/environmental engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in reclamation design.
• Extensive experience in coastal/marine/geotechnical civil & structural projects.
• Strong written and verbal English communication.
• Team player with ability to multi-task.
• Proficiency in MS Office; STAAD.Pro/PROKON advantageous.

Job description

• Assist the team in planning & design works for civil engineering projects (e.g. land reclamation, port construction and other coastal structures) for local and/or overseas
• Civil and Structural (C&S), Environmental, design and analysis for coastal structures such as quay wall, port, jetty, revetment and land reclamation (i.e. deep and shallow foundation, temporary and permanent retaining system, soil improvement, instrumentation, etc.)
• Prepare and review technical calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications.
• Managing subcontracts (i.e. soil investigation contract, Accredited Checker contract, biodiversity contract etc.)
• Supervise both design and/or site work
• Ensure all engineering works comply with all relevant statutory standards, regulations and Codes of Practice
• Support on pursue project: assist in Tender submissions

Job Specification

• Bachelor's degree in civil / environmental engineering recognised by regulatory bodies.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in design of reclamation projects is an advantage.
• Substantial relevant experience in coastal, marine, geotechnical, civil & structural, infrastructure, and/or reclamation projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
• Team player and able to multi-task
• Discipline, self-motivated and resourceful
• Well-versed in Microsoft Office Suite of Software (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc.)
• Proficiency in engineering software such as StaadPro, Prokon etc. will be advantageous
