Job summary

JET Engineering Solutions Sdn Bhd is seeking a software-focused engineer to design and develop SCADA/HMI apps for utilities and industrial automation. You will craft intuitive interfaces, reusable components and automation tools to streamline engineering tasks.

You will work with Design, Production and Site teams to ensure software meets field requirements, improve usability, and explore AI-enabled improvements within engineering workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in electrical/electronic/computer engineering or CS/SE or equivalent.
• Passion for creating software and solving engineering problems.
• Strong logical thinking and analytical skills.

Job description

This is not a traditional SCADA/HMI configuration role.

Responsibilities

1. SCADA & HMI Development

• Design and develop intuitive SCADA/HMI applications for utilities and industrial automation systems.
• Create clear, operator-friendly HMI layouts, navigation flows and visualization concepts.
• Build reusable HMI templates, graphic libraries and software components to improve engineering efficiency.

2. Software Development & Automation

• Continuously improve existing software architecture and engineering processes.
• Develop software tools, scripts and utilities to automate repetitive engineering tasks.
• Improve engineering workflows by reducing manual configuration effort through automation.
• Explore integration of AI and modern software technologies into engineering processes.
• Document and standardise best engineering practices.

3. User Experience (UX)

• Study operator workflows and continuously improve HMI usability.
• Design interfaces that prioritise clarity, speed of operation and situational awareness.
• Challenge traditional HMI design practices and propose better user experiences.
• Prototype and evaluate new interface concepts before implementation.

4. Project Delivery

• Work closely with Design, Production and Site teams to ensure software matches actual field implementation.
• Support troubleshooting, commissioning and software improvements during project execution.
• Maintain proper version control and technical documentation.

Requirement

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent.
• Passion for creating software and solving engineering problems.
• Strong logical thinking and analytical skills.
• Interested in automation, software development and industrial systems.
• Able to understand engineering drawings and translate them into software solutions.
• Self-motivated and willing to learn new technologies.
• Own transport and willing to travel when required.

Advantage

• Experience with HMI/SCADA platforms (any): Zenon/ WinCC / MicroSCADA / Citect / AVEVA / Ignition / Wonderware / etc.
• Basic networking knowledge (IP addressing, switches, VLAN concepts) and comms basics
• Familiarity with protocols/standards (e.g., IEC 61850, Modbus, IEC-104, DNP3)
• Basic scripting for automation (reporting, tag import/export)
