Job summary

MESSER INDUSTRIAL GASES SDN. BHD. invites a responsible Safety Officer to help sustain a safe and healthy working environment in Malaysia.

You will monitor safety compliance, promote a strong safety culture and support safety programmes across the organisation. The ideal candidate holds a Diploma/Degree in OSH or related field, with English and Bahasa Malaysia proficiency, and 2–3 years of relevant experience in manufacturing or industrial settings. DOSH/JKKP SHO certification is an asset.

Qualifications

• Diploma/Degree in OSH or related field.
• 2–3 years of relevant safety experience.
• Knowledge of Malaysian safety requirements.
• Proactive and independent worker with good communication.
• Able to communicate in English and Bahasa Malaysia.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and ensure compliance with safety requirements, policies and procedures.
• Conduct regular inspections, safety observations and risk assessments.
• Identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Assist in implementation and monitoring of safety programmes.
• Investigate workplace incidents and near misses and prepare reports.
• Maintain safety records and documentation.
• Conduct safety briefings and toolbox talks for employees.
• Coordinate emergency drills and safety-related activities.
• Liaise with departments, contractors and external parties on safety matters.
• Assist in audits, inspections and regulatory compliance activities.
• Monitor PPE usage and safe work practices.

Job description

We are looking for a responsible and proactive Safety Officer to support the company in maintaining a safe and healthy working environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring workplace safety, ensuring compliance with applicable safety and health requirements, and promoting a strong safety culture across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor and ensure compliance with occupational safety and health requirements, company policies and procedures.

Conduct regular workplace inspections, safety observations and risk assessments.

Identify potential hazards and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive actions.

Assist in the implementation and monitoring of safety programmes and initiatives.

Investigate workplace accidents, incidents and near misses and prepare the necessary reports.

Maintain proper records and documentation related to safety and health activities.

Conduct safety briefings, toolbox meetings and awareness programmes for employees.

Coordinate and support emergency response, drills and other safety-related activities.

Liaise with relevant departments, contractors and external parties on safety and health matters.

Assist in audits, inspections and regulatory compliance activities.

Monitor the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.

Perform other safety and health duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

Diploma/Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health & Safety or a related field.

Registered Safety and Health Officer (SHO) with DOSH/JKKP will be an advantage/required, depending on the scope of the role.

Minimum 2–3 years of relevant experience in occupational safety and health, preferably in a manufacturing, industrial or chemical/gas environment.

Good knowledge of Malaysian occupational safety and health requirements.

Strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Proactive, responsible and able to work independently.

Willing to conduct workplace inspections and engage with employees at different levels.

Good command of English and Bahasa Malaysia.

Computer literate, particularly Microsoft Office.
