Job summary

Gardenia Bakeries (KL) Sdn Bhd is seeking a Safety and Fire Safety Assistant Manager to lead safety initiatives and ensure compliance with OSHA 1994 and Malaysian regulations. The role focuses on safety policy development, risk assessment, audits, and incident investigations in a manufacturing setting.

The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in safety-related field, SHO/DOSH where applicable, 5+ years’ experience, and strong leadership with good communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health or related discipline.
• Registered Safety & Health Officer (SHO) / DOSH Green Book Holder, where applicable.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant Safety & Health experience, preferably in manufacturing or FMCG.”
• Strong knowledge of OSHA 1994 and Malaysian safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and implementing Safety, Health and Fire Safety policies and programs in compliance with OSHA 1994 and regulations.
• Lead workplace inspections, HIRARC, risk assessments and safety audits.
• Oversee accident and incident investigations including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Coordinate statutory health programs and training, including medical surveillance and ergonomic risk assessment.
• Monitor compliance with DOSH, BOMBA and other regulatory requirements; ensure licenses and certificates are up to date.
• Oversee Fire Safety Management and BOMBA inspections; coordinate emergency drills and ERT activities.
• Lead safety training and ensure employee competency and training records.
• Supervise Safety & Health Officers and OSH Coordinators; promote a strong safety culture.

Safety and Fire Safety Assistant Manager

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Fire Safety, Engineering or related discipline;
• Registered Safety & Health Officer (SHO) / DOSH Green Book Holder, where applicable;
• Minimum 5 years of relevant Safety & Health experience, preferably in manufacturing, food manufacturing or FMCG;
• Experience in Fire Safety Management and BOMBA requirements is highly preferred;
• Strong knowledge of OSHA 1994, applicable Occupational Safety & Health regulations and Malaysian regulatory requirements;
• Experience in HIRARC, incident investigation, occupational health programs, audits and regulatory inspections;
• Experience in leading or supervising a Safety & Health team is an added advantage;
• Good leadership, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in developing, reviewing an dimplementing Safety, Health and Fire Safety policies, procedures and programs in compliance with OSHA 1994, applicable regulations and company requirements;
• Lead and monitor workplace inspections, HIRARC, risk assessments and safety audits, ensuring identified hazards are effectively controlled;
• Lead and oversee accident, incident, dangerous occurrence and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action follow-up.
• Coordinate and monitor statutory Occupational Health programs, including CHRA, CEM, NRA, Audiometric Testing, Medical Surveillance and Ergonomic Risk Assessment;
• Monitor compliance with DOSH, BOMBA and other regulatory requirements including statutory inspections, licenses, certificates and competency requirements;
• Oversee Fire Safety Management including fire prevention programs, fire protection systems, fire safety inspections, emergency response equipment and compliance with BOMBA requirements;
• Coordinate Fire Certificate requirements, BOMBA inspections, fire safety training, Emergency Response Team (ERT) activities and emergency drills, ensuring findings and corrective actions are properly followed up;
• Plan and coordinate Safety & Health and Fire Safety training, safety induction, toolbox meeting and awareness programs, including monitoring employee competency and training records;
• Oversee contractor safety management, including safety induction, risk assessment, Permit-to-Work and contractor safety inspections;
• Support and monitor fleet and road safety programs, including defensive driving and investigation of fleet-related incidents;
• Monitor and review Safety & Health and Fire Safety performance, statistics, reports and corrective actions, providing recommendations to Management;
• Support the Safety and Health committee and Fire Safety / Emergency Response activities, ensuring effective follow-up of findings and action items;
• Supervise, guide and provide technical support to Safety & Health Officers, Executives and OSH Coordinators;
• Lead assigned Safety, Health and Fire Safety improvement projects and promote employee participation and a strong safety culture;
• Support applicable Food Safety Management System requirements, including ISO 22000, HACCP and GMP where relevant to Safety and Health activities;
• Perform other Safety, Health and Fire Safety duties assigned by Management and act as the Safety & Health Manager’s representative when delegated.
