Job summary

Kawan Food Berhad in Malaysia seeks a Product Development Specialist to drive new product development, reformulation and commercialization of frozen foods, including flatbreads, bakery, seafood, snacks and ready-to-eat items.

The role entails lab work, data interpretation, troubleshooting, prototype development with cross-functional teams, and training on SOPs during trials. Based in Pulai Indah Klang, Malaysia, with focus on meeting customer specifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in food science/technology or related field.
• Minimum 3–5 years in new product development or similar role.
• Experience in bakery, pastry or seafood processing is a plus.
• Proficient in Word and Excel; strong data interpretation and communication.

Responsibilities

• Develop, reformulate, and commercialize products in frozen foods.
• Conduct lab work, analytical testing, interpret data and troubleshoot issues.

Job description

Responsible for the development, reformulation, and commercialization of products within the frozen food category, including flatbreads, bakery products, seafood products, snacks, and ready-to-eat convenience foods, to ensure manufactured food products meet customers’ specifications and within the provided timeline.

To conduct lab work and analytical testing, interpret data and provide reliable results and troubleshoot problems related to line process, product quality and formula improvement.

To work with cross functional team in the development of prototypes (kitchen and trial samples) for customers evaluation, conduct trial plan, monitor actual production run and provide recommendations when problems arise with analyzed data.

To provide recommendations and solutions on the assigned projects based on data, test results and feedback from inter-departments.

To source and develop alternative raw materials from different suppliers for cost saving and contingency purpose.

Prepare SOP and conduct training to production and QC team for new product during trial production run.

Assist production & other support team in product or process improvement projects.

To prepare, maintain and update all documents related to the assigned projects based on required regulatory or certification bodies’ requirements.

Familiar with packaging & labelling compliance and food laws.

To carry out other duties and tasks as directed by the Management in line with competencies and activities associated with any of the above processes.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor Degree or higher, preferably in food science / Technology related course.

Minimum 3 – 5 years of experience in new product development or similar role is required.

Experience in bakery, pastry products or seafood processing or ready-to-eat foods will be an added advantage.

Computer literate and good knowledge in Microsoft words and Excel.

Excellent communication (oral and written).

Self-motivated, flexible, able to work independently and with good attitude.

Creative, innovative and keep abreast of current new trend.

Willing to be based in Pulai Indah Klang.
