The R&D Engineer is responsible for executing the R&D function, driving both product innovation and customer-focused technical solutions in sports surfaces. This role emphasises on fundamental knowledge of EPDM and polyurethane.
The position requires strong sense of innovation and project management to drive the development of cutting‑edge products according to customer needs and market requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify, propose, and manage industry-leading innovation and breakthrough research, lead the incorporation of developed technology into processes/products, and collaborate on scaling up and commercialization efforts with Technical, Operation, Commercial and Marketing teams
Key Opinion Leader
- Subject matter expert for technical knowledge relating to polyurethane and EPDM products
Research and Development
- Lead the in-depth research and conceptualization for cutting‑edge sports surface products, performing detailed material engineering and innovating to achieve breakthroughs in features, quality, and cost‑effectiveness.
Project Management and Reporting
- Plan and execute projects in a structured and timely manner followed by routine reporting of progress to management team
Problem Solving and Optimization
- Utilize strong problem‑solving skills to address complex challenges in the development process and optimize formulations for improved product performance.
Collaboration and Communication
- Effectively collaborate with cross‑functional teams, communicate research results, project updates, and strategic plans to stakeholders, and foster open communication within technical teams.
External Relations
- Establish and maintain exceptional working relationships with intercompany entities, external industry stakeholders, research bodies, academic and professional institutions, and suppliers. Represent the company at conferences, seminars, and industry events.
- Create and protect intellectual property for the company, working with legal advisors/authorities in IP investigation and generating activities.
Additional Responsibilities
- Stay updated on new technology potential through conferences, seminars, literature review, and market research.
- Incorporate developed technology into existing processes for product & process quality improvements.
- Any other relevant tasks as assigned.
Key Skills & Requirements:
Education:
- Master’s or PhD in Polymer Engineering/Chemistry, Materials Science, or related field.
- Approximately 2 years of industrial experience in research and development, preferably in polyurethane/rubber/polymer materials.
- Expertise in analytical techniques: TGA, FTIR, DSC, MDR, Mechanical testing.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements in the sports/recreational/building materials industry (a plus).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Well‑versed in Design of Experiment methodology.
- Deadline oriented, attention to detail and sound understanding of cost implications
- Self‑driven, ability to work independently with little supervision
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus but not a requirement
