Quality Engineer – Process, Outgoing - Supplier Quality
We are looking for a hands‑on and technically strong Quality Engineer to oversee In‑Process Quality Assurance (IPQA), Outgoing Quality Assurance (OQA), and Supplier Quality within our wire harness manufacturing operations.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring product and process conformity from production through final inspection and shipment, while also
maintaining quality performance and compliance across external subcontractors.
This role requires someone who is comfortable working directly on the production floor, analyzing quality data, driving corrective actions, and working cross‑functionally with Production, Engineering, Purchasing, Warehouse and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities
- 1. In‑Process Quality Assurance (IPQA)
- Establish, implement and maintain effective in‑process inspection and quality control activities.
- Ensure production processes comply with Control Plans, Work Instructions, customer specifications and applicable quality standards.
- Monitor critical quality characteristics throughout wire harness manufacturing processes, including:
- Wire cutting and stripping
- Terminal crimping
- Seal insertion
- Terminal insertion
- Taping and wrapping
- Routing and final assembly
- Electrical testing
- Review and improve inspection methods, sampling plans and quality checkpoints.
- Monitor process defects, rejection trends and recurring abnormalities.
- Work with Production and Engineering to contain and eliminate process‑related defects.
- Support PFMEA and Control Plan reviews based on actual process performance and quality risks.
- Conduct process audits and layered process audits where applicable.
- 2. Outgoing Quality Assurance (OQA)
- Establish and maintain outgoing inspection standards and acceptance criteria.
- Ensure finished products are inspected before shipment in accordance with customer requirements and internal standards.
- Verify product appearance, dimensions, assembly condition, labelling, traceability and packaging requirements.
- Ensure electrical test results and other required inspection records are completed and retained.
- Review OQA inspection results and identify recurring product defects.
- Control and disposition nonconforming finished products in coordination with relevant functions.
- Ensure shipment release is based on defined quality requirements.
- Support containment and sorting activities when potential quality escapes are identified.
- 3. Supplier Quality Management
- Manage quality performance of subcontractors involved in manufacturing, processing, assembly or other outsourced activities.
- Establish supplier quality requirements and inspection criteria.
- Conduct supplier audits and process assessments.
- Monitor subcontractor quality performance, rejection rates and delivery‑related quality issues.
- Review supplier corrective action reports and verify effectiveness.
- Lead or support supplier containment and sorting activities.
- Ensure suppliers comply with approved specifications, Control Plans and relevant customer requirements.
- Support qualification and evaluation of new suppliers from a quality perspective.
- Maintain supplier quality records, performance reports and improvement plans.
- 4. Nonconformance, CAPA & Problem Solving
- Lead investigations into internal quality issues and process‑related nonconformities.
- Perform Root Cause Analysis using appropriate problem‑solving methodologies such as:
- 5 Why
- Fishbone / Ishikawa
- 8D
- Pareto Analysis
- Basic statistical analysis
- Develop and monitor corrective and preventive actions.
- Verify corrective action effectiveness.
- Ensure recurring problems are escalated and systematically eliminated.
- Support customer containment activities when internal defects have potential customer impact.
- 5. Quality Data & Performance Monitoring
- Monitor and analyze quality indicators including:
- Process rejection
- Rework rate
- Scrap rate
- Defect trends
- Prepare periodic quality reports and communicate significant trends to management.
- Identify opportunities for defect prevention and process improvement.
- 6. Documentation & Quality System
- Maintain quality‑related procedures, inspection standards and records.
- Ensure Control Plans, inspection criteria and quality alerts are properly implemented.
- Support internal, customer and certification audits.
- Ensure traceability and quality records are maintained in accordance with company requirements.
- Ensure changes to processes, materials or specifications are appropriately reviewed from a quality perspective.
- Drive initiatives to reduce defects, rework, scrap and customer risk.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities.
- Work with Production and Engineering to improve process capability and quality performance.
- Promote defect prevention rather than defect detection.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 1–3 years of relevant Quality Engineering experience, preferably in wire harness, automotive, electrical/electronic or precision manufacturing.
- Experience in IPQA, OQA and/or supplier quality is highly advantageous.
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes and quality control methodologies.
- Experience with Control Plan, PFMEA, Process Flow, SPC, MSA and CAPA.
- Knowledge of 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone and other Root Cause Analysis techniques.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and inspection criteria.
- Knowledge of wire harness manufacturing and electrical testing will be an advantage.
- Familiarity with IPC/WHMA‑A‑620 is an advantage.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949 requirements is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
- Comfortable working on the production floor and interacting directly with operators and production personnel.
- Able to work independently and manage multiple quality issues simultaneously.
