The position will connect supplier performance with factory and field quality to drive end-to-end improvements across complex electromechanical systems used in semiconductor manufacturing.

Reporting to the Supplier Quality Manager and based in Penang, Malaysia, this role will lead structured problem solving, supplier qualification and development, product and process risk mitigation, and cross‑functional corrective actions. The successful candidate will be a collaborative, data‑driven problem solver who can develop a strong technical understanding of Veeco products, influence internal and external stakeholders, and convert quality data into measurable business and customer improvements.

Responsibilities

Supplier Quality Engineering

Apply supplier quality engineering best practices to improve part quality, reduce cost of poor quality, and support cost‑down initiatives in partnership with Supply Chain and Engineering.

Participate in cross‑functional supplier management teams responsible for supplier and contract manufacturer selection, qualification, performance, and improvement.

Develop supplier quality improvement plans; perform supplier and contract manufacturer audits; drive closed‑loop corrective actions; and report supplier quality metrics.

Work with suppliers to develop, execute, and audit Product Quality Plans for critical parts, including process flows, pFMEAs, Control Plans, Measurement System Analysis, and Statistical Process Control.

Use supplier audit and assessment methods to establish performance baselines, identify risks, and drive sustainable improvements with key suppliers.

Partner with Design and Manufacturing Engineering to review specifications, engineering drawings, redlines, GD&T, inspection methods, and critical‑to‑quality requirements.

Develop and deploy supplier risk mitigation strategies during pre‑production and New Product Introduction phases to support successful product launches.

Manage quality risks associated with supplier material, design, and process changes, including change notifications, qualification activities, and customer requirements as applicable.

Ensure suppliers implement and maintain effective copy‑exact, configuration management, and change‑control processes.

Define and improve supplier outgoing and Veeco incoming inspection strategies to prevent supplier defects from affecting manufacturing operations.

Use SPC and supplier performance data to identify process variation, prioritize improvement opportunities, and improve process control.

Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of supplier quality processes through automated data management and information systems.

Product Quality Engineering

Lead cross‑functional teams across Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Supplier Quality, and Field Service to contain, investigate, and resolve quality issues affecting complex electromechanical systems.

Lead structured root cause analysis and continuous improvement using methods such as 8D, 5‑Whys, Fishbone/Ishikawa analysis, FMEA, and CAPA.

Analyze production, installation, service, and field data to identify trends, determine root causes, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.

Maintain and report KPIs and quality dashboards aligned with program, site, and company objectives.

Partner with suppliers, Supplier Quality Engineering, and internal technical teams to apply failure analysis learnings to product reliability and customer satisfaction improvements.

Summarize failure analysis results, risks, corrective actions, and recommendations for technical teams and management.

Improve quality‑related documentation, including SOPs, drawings, work instructions, inspection plans, Control Plans, and other manufacturing or quality records.

Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences, both verbally and in writing.

Shared Leadership and Collaboration

Build effective relationships with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and internal stakeholders across different functions, regions, and cultures.

Lead and influence teams without direct authority, establish accountable ownership, and maintain urgency through issue closure.

Balance preventive risk mitigation with timely containment and corrective action in a fast‑paced, changing environment.

Demonstrate strong organization, initiative, attention to detail, sound judgment, and a bias for action.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Quality Engineering, or a related technical field.

Minimum of five years of relevant experience in Supplier Quality Engineering, Product Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related quality role; five to eight or more years is preferred for this level.
