Job summary

Johnson Controls in Malaysia is seeking an experienced HVAC Project Manager to lead end-to-end delivery for large-scale data center and mission-critical projects. You will serve as the primary interface with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective execution from contract award through handover.

You will oversee design coordination, procurement, installation, testing & commissioning, and final acceptance, while driving risk management,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
• At least 7 years of HVAC project delivery experience.
• Experience managing large-scale commercial, industrial, or data center projects.
• Strong knowledge of chilled water systems and BMS integration.
• Experience with mission-critical projects is a strong advantage.
• Proficient in project controls and cost management.

What you will do:

The HVAC Project Manager is responsible for the end‑to‑end delivery of HVAC systems for large‑scale data center and mission critical projects. This role ensures safe, timely, cost‑effective, and quality project execution, while serving as the primary interface with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders. The Project Manager will lead site teams, manage project risks, and drive operational excellence from contract award through project completion and handover.

How you will do it:

• Project Delivery & Execution Lead and manage HVAC projects from design coordination, procurement, installation, testing & commissioning (T&C), to final handover
• Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with contract scope, specifications, schedule, and budget
• Develop and monitor project execution plans, master schedule, and manpower allocation
• Oversee critical path activities and implement recovery plans when needed
• Cost, Contract & Commercial Management
• Manage project cost control, budget forecasting, and cash flow
• Review and approve subcontractor progress claims and variation orders
• Identify, evaluate, and submit variation orders and extension of time (EOT) claims
• Ensure compliance with contractual and commercial requirements
• Stakeholder & Client Management
• Act as the primary point of contact with clients, consultants, and main contractors
• Lead project meetings (technical, progress, coordination, and commercial)
• Ensure timely submission and approval of shop drawings, method statements, and technical documents
• Maintain strong client relationships to support repeat business and future opportunities
• Team Leadership & Coordination
• Lead and mentor project engineers, supervisors, and site teams
• Coordinate closely with MEP, CSA, vendors, and commissioning teams
• Ensure effective communication between site, engineering, procurement, and management teams
• Quality, Safety & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with project QA/QC requirements, authority regulations, and industry standards
• Drive a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with HSE policies and site safety requirements
• Oversee inspections, testing, commissioning, and final acceptance
• Risk & Issue Management
• Identify and manage project risks related to design, schedule, cost, and resources
• Proactively resolve site issues and technical challenges
• Escalate critical risks with mitigation plans in a timely manner

What we look for:

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline
• Minimum 7 years of experience in HVAC project delivery
• Proven experience managing large‑scale commercial, industrial, or data center projects
• Strong knowledge of chilled water systems, CRAH/CRAC, AHUs, ventilation, and preferred BMS integration
• Experience with mission‑critical or data center projects is a strong advantage
• Understanding of HVAC design, installation sequences, and T&C processes
• Sound knowledge of contract management, project controls, and cost management
• Familiar with relevant codes, standards, and authority requirements
• Knowledgeable in MS Project / Primavera, MS Excel, and reporting tools
• Preferred Skills: Strong leadership and people management skills, Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities, Results‑driven with strong problem‑solving capability, Able to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
