Job summary

Large Main Contractor in Johor Bahru seeks an experienced Project Director to lead delivery of large-scale data centre projects. You will oversee programme, cost, quality, safety and stakeholder management from pre-construction to handover.

This senior role requires strong leadership, extensive data centre/industrial project exposure, and the ability to manage multi-discipline teams and complex contractual regimes within a Tier 1 contractor environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Building, MEP Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant construction experience with senior project leadership.
• Proven track record on large-scale data centre, mission-critical or complex projects.
• Experience with major main contractor / Tier 1 contractor preferred.
• Strong MEP and mission-critical infrastructure exposure.
• Experience leading large project teams and multiple subcontractors.

Responsibilities

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Director to lead the delivery of large-scale data centre projects in Johor for a leading main contractor. The successful candidate will have strong experience managing major construction projects from pre-construction through to completion, with overall responsibility for project delivery, commercial performance, programme, quality, safety and stakeholder management.

This is a senior leadership position requiring strong experience in large-scale data centre, mission-critical, industrial or complex MEP-intensive projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the successful delivery of major data centre projects.
• Take full accountability for project performance, including programme, cost, quality, safety and client satisfaction.
• Lead and manage the project team, including Project Managers, Construction Managers, Engineering, QA/QC, HSE, Commercial, Planning and MEP teams.
• Develop and implement project execution strategies, construction methodologies and delivery plans.
• Manage the overall construction programme and ensure key milestones are achieved in accordance with contractual requirements.
• Oversee the coordination and integration of civil, structural, architectural and MEP works, with particular focus on mission-critical systems.
• Lead project meetings with clients, consultants, authorities, subcontractors and key stakeholders.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients and provide regular progress, commercial and performance updates to senior management.
• Monitor project budgets, variations, claims, procurement and commercial performance in conjunction with the commercial team.
• Oversee procurement and subcontractor management to ensure timely delivery of critical materials, equipment and specialist works.
• Ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, HSE requirements and statutory regulations.
• Identify and manage project risks, programme constraints, technical issues and potential delays.
• Drive effective coordination between design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover teams.
• Ensure the project is delivered in accordance with data centre mission-critical requirements, quality standards and client expectations.
• Oversee testing, commissioning, integrated systems testing and final handover activities.
• Provide leadership in resolving complex technical, contractual and construction issues.
• Establish and maintain strong governance, reporting and project controls throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support business development and tendering activities where required, including constructability reviews, project strategy and client engagement.

Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Building, MEP Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant construction experience, with significant experience in senior project leadership roles.
• Proven track record managing large-scale data centre, mission-critical, industrial, semiconductor, high-tech or complex commercial projects.
• Previous experience working for a major main contractor / Tier 1 contractor is highly preferred.
• Strong experience managing projects with significant MEP and mission-critical infrastructure requirements.
• Demonstrated experience managing large project teams, multiple subcontractors and complex stakeholder environments.
• Strong understanding of construction contracts, project controls, programme management, cost management and risk management.
• Experience managing projects through construction, commissioning and handover.
• Strong leadership, communication, negotiation and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and make effective decisions in a fast‑paced project environment.
• Strong knowledge of Malaysian construction practices, regulations and statutory requirements.
