Job summary

Yun Ming Wood Industries Sdn Bhd in Malaysia is seeking a Wood Furniture Spray Painter to apply high-quality finishes to solid wood, veneer, MDF, and engineered wood furniture. You will prepare surfaces, mix paints, operate spray guns and booth equipment, and ensure colour consistency across production runs.

The role requires at least 2 years' experience in wooden furniture spray painting, skilled colour matching, and the ability to maintain spray equipment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' experience in wooden furniture spray painting.
• Experience with solid wood, veneer, MDF, and engineered wood furniture is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces by sanding, cleaning, and inspecting before painting.
• Mix paints, stains, sealers, hardeners, and topcoats according to work instructions.
• Operate spray guns and spray booth equipment safely and efficiently.
• Apply stains, sealers, primers, base coats, and topcoats evenly to achieve the required finish.
• Ensure colour consistency and finish quality across production batches.
• Perform touch-up work to correct defects such as runs, orange peel, pinholes, dry spray, dust contamination, and colour variations.
• Follow approved paint specifications and production schedules.
• Inspect finished furniture for defects before releasing to the next production process.
• Maintain spray guns, pumps, hoses, filters, and spray booths.
• Monitor paint viscosity, air pressure, and environmental conditions during spraying.
• Minimise paint wastage and ensure efficient material usage.
• Follow all workplace safety procedures, including the use of PPE.
• Maintain a clean and organised spray area in accordance with 5S practices.
• Report equipment issues or quality problems promptly to the supervisor.
• Assist in training junior spray painters when required.

The role includes surface preparation, colour matching, spray application, equipment maintenance, and ensuring all finished products meet company quality standards.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in wooden furniture spray painting.
• Experience with solid wood, veneer, MDF, and engineered wood furniture.
• Knowledge of NC, PU, Acrylic coating systems is an advantage.
• Able to perform colour matching and understand finishing specifications.
• Familiar with spray gun operation and maintenance.
• Good understanding of sanding and surface preparation techniques.
• Able to identify and rectify common paint defects.
• Physically fit and able to stand for extended periods.
• Able to work independently and as part of a production team.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with export-quality furniture finishing.
• Understanding of wood grain enhancement and staining techniques.
• Familiarity with HVLP or conventional pressure spray systems.
• Knowledge of paint viscosity measurement and mixing ratios.
• Basic understanding of production quality standards and inspection requirements.
