Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Product Engineer (BOM/ECN/Part Approval) role based in Skudai, Johor. The Product Engineer will manage and maintain Bills of Materials (BOM), coordinate Engineering Change Notices (ECN), and oversee part approval processes to ensure product integrity and manufacturability.
Responsibilities
Candidate 1 — BOM & ECN Management
Main focus: BOM accuracy, engineering changes, part number/system management and material readiness.
- Create, maintain and manage BOM (Bill of Materials) for new SKUs / new product introduction.
- Review and analyze customer BOMs, perform BOM comparison and prepare accurate internal BOMs.
- Verify BOM against drawings, specifications and engineering information to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Coordinate ECN/ECO changes and ensure timely implementation across relevant departments.
- Coordinate new part number creation and registration with Procurement, SAP and MES teams.
- Ensure BOM revisions and engineering changes are accurately updated in SAP, MES and internal systems.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement and other relevant departments on new part/material requirements.
- Coordinate procurement activities for new parts, including material sourcing, price approval and purchase status.
- Follow up on material readiness and ETA to support sample builds / trial runs.
- Maintain proper BOM revision control, ECN/ECO records and related documentation.
- Raise and coordinate DR (Deviation Request) when required.
- Support NPI / APQP activities related to BOM, engineering changes and material readiness.
Candidate 2 — Sample Submission & Part Approval
Main focus: Sample build coordination, inspection, documentation and customer approval.
- Upon receiving a new sample / SKU requirement, coordinate internal teams and suppliers to build the sample through to customer approval.
- Coordinate with Engineering, QA, Production, Tooling, Procurement, IQC and suppliers to ensure materials, tooling and resources are ready for sample build.
- Follow up with suppliers on sample availability, material readiness, trial requirements and submission dates.
- Review DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and follow up on manufacturability issues before sample submission.
- Coordinate tooling trials, first-shot samples and sample builds for plastic parts.
- Coordinate PCBA sample builds and ensure required components, materials and supporting information are ready.
- Coordinate sample inspection and measurement with IQC / QA, and review dimensional, FAI and other inspection results.
- Review FAI / FAIR, dimensional inspection reports, material certificates, appearance reports and test reports.
- Prepare and coordinate customer part approval / PPAP submission according to customer requirements.
- For plastic parts, ensure dimensional, cosmetic, material and functional requirements are fulfilled before submission.
- For PCBA, ensure BOM, PCB/PCBA information, component documentation, electrical/functional test results and other required documents are complete.
- Submit samples and supporting documentation to customers and follow up on customer approval / sign-off.
- Coordinate internal teams and suppliers to address customer comments, sample rejection, deviations or required improvements.
- Coordinate re-submission when required until customer approval is obtained.
- Maintain approved samples, customer approval records and relevant reports/documents as internal references.
- Track sample status and ensure sample build, inspection, submission and approval are completed within the required timeline.
Qualifications
- Strong Product Engineering and Product Design skills, with experience in BOM management, ECN processes, and part approval.
- Analytical Skills to evaluate product data, identify root causes, and propose effective engineering solutions.
- Research and Development (R&D) capabilities to support product improvement, component validation, and technical problem-solving.
- Effective Communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and customers, and for preparing clear technical documentation.
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, or related engineering field.
- Familiarity with EMS manufacturing environments, PCB assemblies, and home appliance products is an advantage.
- Ability to work independently and in teams, with attention to detail and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
