Job summary

SmartHire by SEEK in Malaysia, Penang, is seeking a Product Engineer to contribute to design, manufacturability and production support across sheet metal and precision manufacturing projects. You will design in 3D and create manufacturing drawings using SOLIDWORKS or similar CAD tools.

Required are 3+ years in product engineering, DFM/DFA knowledge, GD&T reading ability, and proficiency with SOLIDWORKS, AutoCAD or Inventor. Mandarin and English are desired for cross‑site collaboration.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in product or manufacturing engineering.
• Experience reading GD&T and customer drawings.
• Familiar with sheet metal fabrication and stamping.

Responsibilities

• Develop 3D models and 2D drawings using SOLIDWORKS or similar CAD tools.
• Prepare sheet metal flat patterns, laser cutting and bending drawings.
• Review customer drawings, specs and requirements for manufacturability.
• Apply DFM and DFA principles to improve manufacturability, cost, quality and efficiency.
• Develop product and manufacturing processes for sheet metal, stamping, machining, welding and assembly.
• Coordinate with Production, Quality, Planning and Purchasing to resolve issues.
• Provide engineering support during prototype, first article and mass production stages.
• Review and update drawings, BOMs, specs and other documents.
• Support new product development and ECN/ECR processes.
• Ensure drawings and documents meet customer requirements and company standards.

Our client is seeking a Product Engineer to join their team!

This is a full-time, permanent opportunity for a product engineering professional to contribute to design, manufacturability and production support across sheet metal and precision manufacturing projects.

What you'll be doing?

• Product design Develop and modify 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using SOLIDWORKS or similar CAD software.
• Manufacturing drawings Prepare sheet metal flat patterns, laser cutting and bending drawings, welding details and assembly drawings.
• Design review Review customer drawings, specifications and requirements to ensure designs are suitable for manufacturing.
• DFM application Apply Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly principles to improve manufacturability, quality, cost and production efficiency.
• Process development Develop product and manufacturing processes for sheet metal, stamping, machining, welding and assembly.
• Technical support Work with Production, Quality, Planning, Purchasing and other departments to resolve technical and manufacturing issues.
• Production support Provide engineering support during prototype, first article and mass production stages.
• Engineering documentation Review and update drawings, bills of materials, specifications and other technical documents.
• Product changes Support new product development and engineering changes, including ECN/ECR preparation where required.
• Standards compliance Ensure engineering documents and drawings meet customer requirements and company standards.

Who are they looking for?

• Relevant experience At least 3 years of experience in product engineering or manufacturing engineering.
• DFM/DFA knowledge Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly principles will support practical, production-ready solutions.
• Drawing interpretation The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T is essential for accurate product development and manufacturing support.
• CAD capability Familiarity with SOLIDWORKS, AutoCAD, Inventor or similar CAD software is expected.
• Manufacturing exposure Experience with sheet metal fabrication, stamping, CNC machining and assembly is highly advantageous.
• Materials knowledge Understanding of steel, stainless steel, aluminium and surface treatments will support effective design decisions.
• Language skills Mandarin and English proficiency are required for communicating with customers and stakeholders on technical requirements and design-related matters.
