Job summary

Benchmark Electronics is seeking a detail-oriented Buyer in Penang to identify and evaluate suppliers, raise purchase orders, and manage the procurement process from requisition to delivery.

You will negotiate terms, monitor supplier performance, track inventory, and prepare procurement reports while collaborating with internal teams to meet sourcing needs. Fresh graduates are welcome and relocation to Penang Island is preferred.

Qualifications

• Fresh graduate or recent qualification in Business, Supply Chain Management, Commerce or related discipline.
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to work effectively with suppliers and colleagues.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
• Basic understanding of procurement processes and supply chain principles.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work to tight deadlines.
• Analytical mindset with a focus on cost management and process efficiency.
• Willingness to learn and develop within a purchasing and procurement environment.
• Preferably located in or willing to relocate to the Penang Island area.

Responsibilities

• Identifying and evaluating potential suppliers based on quality, cost, delivery and service criteria
• Raising purchase orders and managing the procurement process from requisition through to delivery
• Negotiating prices, terms and conditions with suppliers to achieve cost savings and favourable agreements
• Monitoring supplier performance and maintaining positive working relationships
• Tracking inventory levels and coordinating with warehouse and operations teams to ensure adequate stock availability
• Preparing procurement reports and maintaining accurate records of purchasing transactions
• Liaising with internal departments to understand their sourcing requirements and timelines
• Assisting with the implementation of procurement policies and procedures
• Researching market trends and identifying opportunities for process improvements and cost reduction
