Job summary

Ghee Hiang in Penang, Malaysia, seeks an experienced Mill Operations Manager to oversee daily palm oil mill production, lead a technical and maintenance team, and drive continuous improvement while ensuring strict safety and environmental compliance. You will manage quality standards, optimize resources, and coordinate with across functions to ensure smooth operations and timely maintenance.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of experience in palm oil mill operations or a similar heavy manufacturing environment.
• Proven track record in mill management, production control and operational excellence.
• Strong knowledge of palm oil processing, equipment operation and industry best practices.
• Demonstrated experience in team leadership, staff management and organisational skills.
• Sound understanding of health, safety and environmental (HSE) regulations applicable to the manufacturing sector.
• Proficiency in production planning, scheduling and resource management.
• Strong communication skills in English and Malay (spoken and written).
• Problem-solving abilities and capability to make sound decisions under pressure.
• Experience with computerised maintenance management systems and production reporting software.
• Certification in relevant engineering disciplines, ISO standards management or HSE qualifications is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the palm oil mill, ensuring optimal production efficiency and minimal downtime.
• Manage, supervise and develop a team of technical staff, maintenance personnel and operational workers.
• Monitor and control production quality standards, implementing corrective actions when necessary.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental regulations and company policies.
• Maintain and manage preventative maintenance schedules for all mill equipment and machinery.
• Optimise resource allocation, including raw materials, energy consumption and labour.
• Conduct regular performance reviews and prepare detailed operational reports for senior management.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement cost-saving initiatives.
• Liaise with supply chain, logistics and quality assurance teams to ensure seamless operations.
• Manage inventory levels and coordinate with procurement for timely equipment and spare parts availability.
• Conduct incident investigations and implement corrective measures to prevent future occurrences.
