Position Overview
The Outsourced Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing manufacturing operations across external production partners, ensuring operational excellence, quality, and efficiency.
This role plays a critical part in driving business performance by aligning internal stakeholders and manufacturing partners to achieve successful product delivery and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Leadership:
- Oversee and manage day-to-day manufacturing operations to maximise output, productivity, and product quality.
- Ensure all procedures comply with global standards, industry regulations, and local policies.
2. Performance & Reporting:
- Develop, track, and analyse operational KPIs (output, cost, quality, delivery, yield, efficiency).
- Design and implement robust reporting and auditing processes, translating metrics into actionable insights.
- Regularly provide concise, data-driven updates to leadership.
3. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work hand-in-hand with Engineering (NPI, R&D), Supply Chain, Finance, Quality Assurance, Procurement, HR, and Compliance to ensure aligned objectives and smooth information flow.
- Lead and facilitate project reviews and operational performance meetings, driving clear decision making and accountability.
4. Contract Manufacturer Management (CM) / Joint Development Management (JDM) Partner:
- Main point of contact for CM/JDM, setting standards, providing direction, and resolving complex operational escalations.
- Support on boarding and integration of new first-tier manufacturers and second-tier subcontractors.
- Align external partners with operational, quality, and ethical expectations.
5. Process & Efficiency:
- Continuously identify opportunities for efficiency, waste reduction, cost improvements, cycle time reduction, and increased adherence to specifications.
- Champion Lean methodologies and process engineering.
6. Technology & Product Transfer:
- Drive and de-risk new product introductions and technology transfers into the manufacturing environment.
- Proactively identify obstacles and implement mitigation plans to ensure successful first-time builds.
7. Cost Management:
- Leverage experience in manufacturing, Lean, and project management to spot, propose, and implement operational cost savings.
- Ensure all cost management strategies support quality and delivery aims.
8. CSR & Compliance:
- Uphold corporate ethics, social responsibility, and sustainability commitments in all operational processes.
- Ensure all projects and supplier relationships adhere to regulatory and compliance requirements.
9. Quality Assurance:
- Direct link for managing non-conformities, audit responses, and continuous improvements.
- Engineering / NPI / R&D: Collaborate closely for new product launches, design for manufacturability reviews, and ongoing product/process changes.
- Organise and lead regular performance review calls/meetings with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Responsible for insight-driven reporting, turning operational data into clear, actionable summaries for leadership and peers.
- Supports audit preparations, documentation, and compliance submissions.
Key Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience managing outsourced manufacturing operations within a consumer products, household appliances, electronics, or related manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience working with contract manufacturers (CM) and Joint Development Management (JDM) partners.
- Strong background in new product introduction (NPI), product transfers, and manufacturing operations.
- Experience in operational performance management, auditing, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Proven track record of implementing cost-saving programmes while maintaining quality and delivery standards.
Technical / Functional Expertise
- Extensive knowledge of manufacturing operations, production processes, and supply chain management.
- Strong expertise in KPI development, performance tracking, operational reporting, and data analysis.
- Experience with Lean methodologies, process engineering, waste reduction, cycle time improvement, and operational efficiency programmes.
- Knowledge of quality assurance processes, non-conformity management, audit responses, and compliance requirements.
- Experience managing technology transfers and de-risking new product introductions within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of regulatory, CSR, sustainability, and supplier compliance requirements.
- Ability to manage cross-functional collaboration involving Engineering (NPI, R&D), Supply Chain, Finance, Procurement, HR, Compliance, and Quality Assurance teams.
