Job summary

Broadcom Inc. in Penang seeks a Senior Test Engineer to drive technology transfer, documentation, and new test setups from PA R&D to contract manufacturing for volume production. You will lead cross-functional problem solving, test optimization, automation, and data analysis, collaborating with global teams.

A strong background in optoelectronic/electronics testing and proficiency with JMP, Visual Studio, and C++ is required. Travel to other Broadcom sites may be needed.

Qualifications

• Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in test engineering roles, preferably within optics, and/or electronics manufacturing.
• Good understanding of optoelectronic devices, test instruments, and related algorithms.
• Automation experience including motion control, machine vision, and database access.
• Proficiency in JMP, Visual Studio, and C++.
• Strong problem-solving abilities with statistical analysis and cross-disciplinary understanding.

Responsibilities

• Technology Transfer & Documentation: Collaborate with PA R&D test team to transfer products and test setups to Contract Manufacturing plants, developing system documentation and work instructions.
• Engineering Change Management: Support engineering changes with rigorous product testing across test processes.
• Cross-Functional Problem Solving: Partner with cross-functional groups to address process and product issues and implement corrective actions.
• Test Optimization & Innovation: Lead initiatives to enhance production test effectiveness, reducing test time and developing new methods and hardware configurations.
• Automation & Equipment Management: Work with robotic handling equipment and machine vision systems to streamline operations.
• Supplier Collaboration: Qualify and release bar-test systems to production by partnering with system suppliers.
• Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze data to evaluate test system and product performance; present findings to design teams.
• Database Management: Assist in structuring databases for characterization data.
• General Support: Perform ad-hoc duties and projects as assigned.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Technology Transfer & Documentation: Collaborate with the PA R&D test team to successfully transfer new products and test setups to Contract Manufacturing (CM) plants for volume production, developing comprehensive system documentation and work instructions.
• Engineering Change Management: Support engineering change activities, including rigorous product testing and evaluation across all test engineering processes.
• Cross-Functional Problem Solving: Partner with cross-functional groups, the PA R&D test engineering team, and CM partners to address process and product issues. Actively drive root-cause analysis, continuous improvement, and the implementation of preventive actions.
• Test Optimization & Innovation: Spearhead initiatives with PA R&D to enhance production test effectiveness and efficiency. This includes intelligent test-time reduction, as well as developing and optimizing new test methodologies and hardware configurations.
• Automation & Equipment Management: Work closely with robotic handling equipment and machine vision systems to streamline operations.
• Supplier Collaboration: Qualify and release bar-test systems to the production line in a timely manner by partnering closely with system suppliers.
• Data Analysis & Reporting: Perform in-depth data analysis to evaluate test system and product performance. Document and present findings effectively to a broad, interdisciplinary design team.
• Database Management: Assist in database structuring to efficiently manage characterization data.
• General Support: Perform any other ad-hoc duties and projects as assigned.

Experience & Qualifications

• Education: Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in test engineering roles, preferably within optics, and/or electronics manufacturing organizations.
• Technical Expertise: Good understanding of the fundamentals of optoelectronic devices, test instruments, and related algorithms.
• Automation Skills: Proven automation experience encompassing motion control, machine vision, and database access.
• Software Proficiency: Proficiency in JMP, Visual Studio, and C++.
• Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities rooted in statistical analysis and a solid grasp of electrical, mechanical, optical, and software interactions.
• Networking Knowledge: Familiarity with basic network terminologies and configurations.
• Work Methodology: Highly organized with excellent planning capabilities and a strong analytical work methodology.
• Communication & Teamwork: Collaborative team player with outstanding verbal and written communication skills, capable of working effectively across diverse, global teams.
• Travel: Flexibility for occasional travel to other Broadcom sites worldwide.
