Job summary

Broadcom Inc. in Malaysia (Penang) seeks a test engineering professional with 5+ years in optics/electronics manufacturing to drive technology transfer, automate test methods, and optimize production processes.

You will collaborate with R&D, CM partners, and global teams, manage databases, develop documentation, and deliver data-driven insights while traveling to Broadcom sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years in test engineering, preferably in optics or electronics manufacturing.
• Good understanding of optoelectronic devices, test instruments, and related algorithms.
• Automation experience including motion control, machine vision, and database access.
• Proficiency in JMP, Visual Studio, and C++.
• Strong analytical skills with knowledge of statistics and cross-disciplinary interactions.
• Familiarity with basic network terminologies and configurations.
• Highly organized with strong planning and analytical work methodology.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills across global teams.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to Broadcom sites worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Technology Transfer & Documentation: collaborate with PA R&D test team to transfer new products and test setups to CM plants, creating system documentation and work instructions.
• Engineering Change Management: support change activities with product testing and evaluation across test processes.
• Cross-Functional Problem Solving: work with cross-functional groups to address issues, drive root-cause analysis and preventive actions.
• Test Optimization & Innovation: lead efforts to improve test effectiveness, reduce test time, and develop new test methods and hardware.
• Automation & Equipment Management: coordinate with robotic handling and machine vision to streamline operations.
• Supplier Collaboration: qualify and release bar-test systems with system suppliers.
• Data Analysis & Reporting: perform in-depth data analysis and present findings to a broad design team.
• Database Management: assist in structuring databases to manage characterization data.
• General Support: perform ad-hoc duties and projects as assigned.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Technology Transfer & Documentation: Collaborate with the PA R&D test team to successfully transfer new products and test setups to Contract Manufacturing (CM) plants for volume production, developing comprehensive system documentation and work instructions.
• Engineering Change Management: Support engineering change activities, including rigorous product testing and evaluation across all test engineering processes.
• Cross-Functional Problem Solving: Partner with cross-functional groups, the PA R&D test engineering team, and CM partners to address process and product issues. Actively drive root-cause analysis, continuous improvement, and the implementation of preventive actions.
• Test Optimization & Innovation: Spearhead initiatives with PA R&D to enhance production test effectiveness and efficiency. This includes intelligent test-time reduction, as well as developing and optimizing new test methodologies and hardware configurations.
• Automation & Equipment Management: Work closely with robotic handling equipment and machine vision systems to streamline operations.
• Supplier Collaboration: Qualify and release bar-test systems to the production line in a timely manner by partnering closely with system suppliers.
• Data Analysis & Reporting: Perform in-depth data analysis to evaluate test system and product performance. Document and present findings effectively to a broad, interdisciplinary design team.
• Database Management: Assist in database structuring to efficiently manage characterization data.
• General Support: Perform any other ad-hoc duties and projects as assigned.

Experience & Qualifications

• Education: Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in test engineering roles, preferably within optics, and/or electronics manufacturing organizations.
• Technical Expertise: Good understanding of the fundamentals of optoelectronic devices, test instruments, and related algorithms.
• Automation Skills: Proven automation experience encompassing motion control, machine vision, and database access.
• Software Proficiency: Proficiency in JMP, Visual Studio, and C++.
• Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities rooted in statistical analysis and a solid grasp of electrical, mechanical, optical, and software interactions.
• Networking Knowledge: Familiarity with basic network terminologies and configurations.
• Work Methodology: Highly organized with excellent planning capabilities and a strong analytical work methodology.
• Communication & Teamwork: Collaborative team player with outstanding verbal and written communication skills, capable of working effectively across diverse, global teams.
• Travel: Flexibility for occasional travel to other Broadcom sites worldwide.
