Job summary

KPJ Healthcare Berhad is seeking an Optometrist to perform comprehensive eye examinations and assess ocular health, prescribing refractive correction as needed across our Malaysia clinics. The role includes assisting doctors with surgery planning, dispensing medications per prescriptions, and providing patient education to support vision health.

Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply. The candidate should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Optometry, be registered with a valid practicing certificate

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in optometry or equivalent required.
  • Registered with a valid practicing certificate in Malaysia.
  • 1–2 years of clinical optometry experience preferred; fresh graduates encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive eye examinations and refractions.
  • Assist doctors in surgery planning and lens calculation.
  • Dispense and discharge medications according to prescriptions.
  • Provide patient education and counseling on vision health.
  • Maintain SOPs and uphold clinical policies.
  • Support inventory and clinic operations; participate in CPD.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Optometry or equivalent (recognized by the Malaysian Optical Council)
Registered Optometrist with valid practicing certificate in Malaysia
1–2 years of clinical experience (fresh graduates encouraged)

Job description

The Optometrist is responsible for conducting comprehensive eye examinations to evaluate patients’ vision and ocular health. This role involves diagnosing visual problems, prescribing corrective lenses, detecting eye diseases, and providing professional consultation on eye care and visual health management.

PROFESSIONAL DILIGENCE

Uphold professional ethics, integrity, and conduct in accordance with optometry standards and organizational policies.

Demonstrate accountability, reliability, and commitment in all assigned duties.

Promote good practices and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of eye care services and the organization in a positive and professional manner.

Attend relevant training, continuous professional development (CPD), and knowledge-sharing sessions as required

CLINICAL DUTIES

Perform all relevant eye examinations and assessments, including refraction and instrumental eye tests, as required.

Assist doctors in surgery planning and scheduling, including lens calculation and ordering.

Support clinical procedures according to established clinical protocols and guidelines.

Dispense and discharge medications to patients in accordance with prescription and clinic policy.

CUSTOMER/PATIENT CARE

Provide patient education, consultation, and reassurance on vision-related conditions and treatment plans.

Deliver professional, courteous, and empathetic care to all patients.

Manage patient complaints effectively and elevate issues when necessary to ensure patient satisfaction.

Obtain patient feedback and testimonials by conducting patient surveys to support service improvement initiatives.

MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTABILITY

Manage and monitor clinic lens inventory, including ordering, stock checking, and stock return or exchange.

Ensure all clinic equipment is regularly checked and maintained in good working condition.

Assist in company and marketing activities, including roadshows and in-house events, when required.

Support clinic operations and workflow efficiency as assigned by management.

HUMAN RESOURCES

Application of leave. Seven days in advance to be submitted to Branch Manager for approval.

Participates in the teaching program of the unit & orientation of new members of staff. Supports and assists the Head of Service in effective and efficient utilization of staff, supplies and services.

To attend staff meeting. Management reserves the right to change and notice will be given.

Attend training program. Minimum 30 hours per year.

SAFETY AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT

Fully receptive and supportive in the activities that contribute towards continuous improvement of service e.g. Quality Assurance and Fire and Safety Program.

Conduct investigation and Root Cause analysis in any incident in the services, takes appropriate action. Completion of incident reports within stipulated time frame.

Carries out duties as an employee as stipulated in Occupational Safety and Health Act and Regulations 1994:-

To take reasonable care at work for the safety of oneself and other persons;

To co-operate with all staff or any other person in the discharge of any duty;

To wear or use any PPE provided by the employer.

To comply with any instruction or measure on occupational safety and health.

Ensures compliance of patient safety goals as safety improvement measures recommended by World Alliance for Patient Safety.

Ensures the policies on Patient and Family’s Rights are addressed at all times

Ensures all staff adheres to Standard People Practice (SPP) at all times.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Undertake any additional work matters as instructed by superior.

Participation in Centre’s Event/ Other activities / all other assignment as instructed by the Management.

Support marketing event such as Roadshow.

JOB REQUIREMENT
