Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer, HVAC, with data centre experience to support the design, coordination and delivery of advanced cooling infrastructure projects. You will lead mechanical system design, equipment selection and act as the primary technical liaison for Japanese-speaking stakeholders.

The role requires proficiency in Revit MEP and AutoCAD, plus strong English, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with ASHRAE, UBBL and local regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (required).
• 3–5 years of data centre or mission-critical HVAC design experience.
• Experience in HVAC system design and building services engineering.
• Familiarity with chilled-water and air distribution systems.
• Proficiency in Revit MEP and AutoCAD; professional working proficiency in Japanese and strong English.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical/HVAC systems for data centres; define design criteria, airflow diagrams and P&IDs.
• Perform system-sizing calculations for chilled-water, DX and economiser systems.
• Select equipment (chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, pumps) and prepare specifications.
• Create design criteria, AFDs and P&IDs; coordinate with architectural and electrical teams.
• Support installation, commissioning and troubleshooting; drive innovation in cooling and sustainability.
• Coordinate mechanical design activities with BIM teams; participate in design reviews and project meetings.
• Assist with design change management and technical query resolution.

Your impact

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer, HVAC with experience in data centre and mission-critical HVAC systems to support the design, coordination, and delivery of advanced cooling infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in mechanical system design, equipment selection, and client engagement, serving as the primary technical liaison for Japanese-speaking stakeholders while ensuring compliance with industry standards and local regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical/HVAC systems for air- and water-cooled data centres; define design criteria, airflow diagrams (AFDs) and P&IDs for efficient, sustainable cooling.
• Perform system-sizing calculations for chilled-water, direct expansion and economiser systems.
• Select equipment (chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, pumps) and prepare specifications.
• Create design criteria, AFDs and P&IDs; coordinate with architectural and electrical teams.
• Support installation, commissioning and troubleshooting; drive innovation in cooling and sustainability.
• Coordinate mechanical design activities with architectural, electrical, structural, and BIM teams.
• Participate in design reviews and project coordination meetings.
• Assist with design change management and technical query resolution.

Here’s what you'll need

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Registered Graduate Engineer with Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM).
• 3-5 years of relevant mechanical engineering design experience specifically with data centre or mission-critical HVAC systems.
• Experience in HVAC system design and building services engineering.
• Familiarity with chilled-water and air distribution systems.
• Proficient in Revit MEP and AutoCAD. Professional working proficiency in Japanese (verbal and written) and strong command of English.
• Act as the main technical point of contact for Japanese clients, contractors, and regional stakeholders.
