Job summary

UPM in Malaysia is hiring a Mechanical Engineer based in Johor Bahru. You will lead mechanical engineering activities for capital projects, develop layouts, specifications, and drawings to support plant improvements.

You will coordinate suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders through design, procurement, construction, startup, and handover, ensuring safety and budget alignment. The role requires a bachelor's in mechanical engineering and at least five years of relevant experience.

• Experience with engineering drawings, CAD tools, and technical document management.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering activities for capital investment projects, MOP projects, and plant improvement initiatives. Develop and review mechanical concepts, equipment layouts, technical specifications, engineering drawings, and project documentation.
• Coordinate suppliers, contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders throughout design, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, startup, and handover. Review technical proposals, contractor designs, installation plans, and mechanical interfaces with other engineering disciplines.
• Coordinate civil and structural works: foundations, equipment supports, platforms, building modifications, drainage, and construction interfaces.
• Coordinate mechanical, piping, utility, civil, electrical, and automation interfaces to ensure safe and effective project execution; participate in inspections, commissioning, and handover; act as Project Manager for assigned MOP projects.
• Provide technical support for mechanical breakdowns, equipment reliability issues, and maintenance activities; support preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
• Perform root cause analysis and develop corrective and preventive actions; prioritize maintenance activities and support spare-parts evaluation and lifecycle management.
• Ensure safety, environmental, engineering, and contractor-management requirements; participate in risk assessments and design reviews.
• Maintain accurate engineering drawings, equipment records, specifications, calculations, inspection records, and project files; ensure proper handover to the Factory Service team.
